“In VERY Poor Condition”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

This definitely didn't feel like a 4.5 star hotel. Let's start small: the entrance, on the Queen street mall is a bit hard to find, and the lobby could definitely use an update. The in-room safe was broken, the shower doesn't have a door, just a curtain, and is quite small. The bed was a bit old, and not terribly comfortable, same with the pillows. The room smelled a bit like mildew.

The entrance on the mall means that it's hard to unload suitcases if you're driving, and that no matter how you arrive, you have to lug your stuff a bit before you get to the hotel.

Service was fine, but nothing great. The real kicker was the elevators were out. As in totally broken, as in, walking up to the 12th floor. I'm glad we checked in while ONE was working, but wait times were up to 15 minutes. The hotel did nothing to compensate us for the inconvenience, not even a free drink, and really barely an apology. When we chose to walk down the stairs after waiting 15 minutes, a staff member chastised us for doing so.

All in all, not worth the price.

“Great for our 2 night city stay, will stay again.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We stayed in a Deluxe Queen Room for 2 nights @ 139/nt. Whilst I realise this hotel has been around for a long time, our room was fine & there was nothing to complain about. I chose to stay here because I can't walk too far after a recent operation but still wanted to go shopping. And I was most impressed that a room was ready for me at 10:30-11am when I was early arriving. Best news I could have hoped for at the time. Can't beat its location. Especially Myer about 20m away across the mall. Casino about 50m. Eagle St Pier 4 blocks. The hotel room was clean & tidy, the bed was made fresh each day & was comfortable. We stayed on floor 17 & it was quiet. The bathroom was tiny, but we didn't need anything else. The only disappointment at the hotel was that Chef's Restaurant was not open for dinner during our stay, but there are so many restaurants in Queen St to choose from. Instead, a discounted breakfast was offered. Yes, if you have a car the hotel is confusing to get to if you are not familiar with the area, set your Navman to Burnett Lane. We were happy with our stay & will probably stay again.

Room Tip: We requested a high floor room to minimise mall/traffic noise & slept well.

“Great location but hotel needs a rennovation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

This ain't no Hilton but I guess you are not paying for one either. The hotel really needs a renovation and definitely need the lift upgrades to be completed ASAP. Be prepared to wait 10mins for a lift. That said I had many great conversations with other guests which was nice whilst waiting for the lift.

It is hard to find a better location in Brisbane CBD and that makes this hotel sort of worthwhile. The hotel rooms were clean and I got a decent nights sleep which is my minimum requirement.

Overall if I had to return I would but its definitely not high on my list.

If the hotel got a simple renovation and fixed the lifts (which they are doing) I would be happy to go back.

“Getting to the end of its life”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I have stayed here around 12 times in the past two years and while it is right in Queens St mall, the parking is very hard to find the first time, you can get delayed leaving as trucks stop in the lane to deliver, most times only a few minutes, but once it was 20mins until the parking cops came and cleared the lane.
The service is ok, they are not Hilton or Marriott staff, so you can't expect the same level of service, but they are ok for the stars. The rooms are worn and really starting to smell musty. Sleep quality can be affected by the noise from the mall. For some reason this is my companies hotel to book when the Marriott is full, but there is no comparison. Spend the extra $20 and stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: rooms on the lane side can be quieter

“Great central location but.......”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

Our GPS unit didn't like trying to find this place which wasn't a good start and we had to phone and get direction to the parking area. We had secured this hotel at a good rate through Wotif and the location was great. It is right on the Queen St Mall and very central for doing just about anything in Brisbane.
We checked in ok and found the staff friendly. The lifts are apparently going through a modernization which probably should have happened 15 years ago. We were stuck on our floor for at least 10 minutes one time waiting for the one lift that was working.
The rooms are ok, just hotel rooms, nothing special. Our room smelt a bit because someone had split water on the carpet outside the bathroom and the carpet was smelly and it wasn't pleasant walking on wet carpet to go to the bathroom or to leave the room. We had already unpacked so decided not to bother asking for another room because it was only one night.
As I said it was ok but next time we would pay the $40 extra and stay up the road at the Hilton.
