“Clean, roomy, convienient and QUIET.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2010

Had two bedroom, two bathroom suite which was huge! Room was clean, spacious and very quiet. Hotel walking distance to most things but removed enough to be quiet at night. Excellent air conditioioning! Great views from balcony just to hot to sit out there. I think the term "luxury" is a bit of a stretch but i would definately stay again.

“Value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2010

We stayed for ten days with two children. Very spacious apartment with all facilities including washing machine and dryer. Stayed in two bedroom, two bathroom apartment, lovely big rooms and light and airy. Could do with refurbishing though. Great for families. Within walking distance of City centre.

“Great location and views, spacious and relaxing but needs a bit of TLC”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2010

Myself and a colleague stayed here whilst up in Darwin for work for 4 days. The apartment was a two bedroom, two bathroom one, and felt light and spacious with plenty of room. Kitchen was well equipped but could have done with a more thorough clean. Bedrooms and lounge/dining area was very light, cool and had fantastic views, with balcony + table and chairs for relaxing with a drink at the end of the day. On the down side, the bathrooms were very tired and the showers need re tiling and sprucing up. This is a pity as the rest of the apartment was great. One shower needed serious attention to the tiling. Both bathrooms are tired looking and need updating. Air con and ceiling fans were great, but the air con was a little noisy. Nice swimming pool for relaxing after a day's work. Reception hours a little limited. Overall, a great apartment and handy for all the Darwin dining and shops. Would have got a better rating if the bathrooms had come up to the 'luxury' title

“Plenty of room and great views but don't expect luxury”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2010

We stayed for a week and and thought that the location was the highlight. It was central to the city , Cullen Bay and the waterfront / Stokes Wharf and easily walkable to all. The rooms are large and two bathrooms made it great for two adult couples. Our kitchen was quite grubby particularly the cook top and range hood, all of the crockery and cutlery required further cleaning prior to use. Bed linen and bathrooms were all clean. AC functioned well but was noisy. The unit generally looked as though it had been a long time since it had been properly cleaned and really needed a paint and "face-lift".

We struggled to get the room serviced despite several requests.

The price is probably about right for what you get ( the last minute rates on the web would have been better!) .

Note: There seems to be a significant number of owner occupiers so units may vary.

“Looking pretty tired but rooms were spacious”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 July 2010

We stayed here for 3 x nights at the beginning of our Darwin trip. The Marrakai was in a convenient location (as pretty much anything along Smith, Mitchell or the Esplanade are) with Hertz and Avis car rentals on either side. As we did a side trip out of Darwin we were able to leave our car parked in the Avis car park for a few days.
The apartment we had included 2 bedrooms and 2 x bathrooms, all spacious and the lounge / dining area and also the kitchen were also a great size. The only drawback or disappointing factor would be in the name of the place. The apartment we had was certainly not a 'luxury' apartment. If anything I would describe the building as having a 1970s feel to it. The apartment we had could probably do with some re-carpeting and an update to the kitchen. Perhaps each apartment is separately owned and there may be variances between which one you might get, I'm not sure. Otherwise, it was clean and secure (needing swipe keys to enter the basement car park and access to the floor). The air con worked well enough (if not a little noisy). For a few days staying in the one place I think a bit of space works wonders and this was certainly a plus for the Marrakai.
As we arrived on a weekend we were never really able to access the reception for any assistance (as these had limited hours). Not so great but somewhat expected for apartment stays.
