“Exactactley what we needed at the time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2011

I am very choosy when it comes to accomodation because of personal needs within the family. I like to get what I ask for and what is advertised. I look for friendly, helpful staff, convenience, affordability, fans, airconditioning, smoke dectors, coffee mugs, secure parking and a lift if possible. (Things we sometimes take for granted).
On this occasion most of the above were taken care of except there was no lift (I knew this) but requested a ground floor app. and was granted by a helpful staff member. My only critisem would be the car park which is way too small for the complex, could be made more secure. There is a breakfast bistro on site also. This place is not flash but quiet, convenient, clean and affordable.

“A Dodgy accommodation option that you might want to give a miss”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 March 2011

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights and we were unable to sleep every night as we had major disturbances from a group of Aboriginal people who would create a ruckus in the middle of the night outside our room. The hotel is unsafe for travelers and sleep quality is terrible. I believe the management is not interested in the safety of its guests. The washbasin was stained and the room was not vacuumed.

“Unless you don't mind a bit of walk, Alatai is quite a good option.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2011

We stayed at Alatai for 3 nights on our weekend trip to Darwin. We are pleasantly surprised with the generous space of the two-bedroom apartments! Each apartment is equipped with a kitchen so that you know you could do some cooking there (utensils, pans, spoons, everything provided! - worry free!) or even washing and drying! So practically saying, Alatai is quite a good option for those traveling with big groups and kinda need cooking during their stay. Mary-Anne was also very nice, she's helpful in giving us information.

However, the location is not that central, it is off the main road of Mcminn street and pretty far apart from the main attraction. Although Darwin is really a small city, it still requires quite a walk to the main attraction. Especially when Darwin has frequent monsoonal rainfalls in February, that really made traveling fairly impossible to do in Darwin city.

Unless you don't mind a bit of walking to the city (consider the weather), Alatai is quite a good option.

Rooms were nice, clean and very spacious. Bit pricey but Darwin is pricey anyway.

“Very Practical. Basic but Did the Job.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

The location here is very good. Easy walking into town although if you are going to attempt to carry your shopping back it may be a little far!

The apartment was very basic but had everything you needed. All kitchen equipment was provided, there was a washing machine and pretty good dryer (which I would recommend in Darwin!).
There was plenty of storage space in the rooms and there was a safe in one bedroom.
The rooms were not cleaned during our stay but the towels were changed everyday.

The aircon was very noisy which was a little problem since it had to be on. Also we were on the ground floor and you could hear outside very clearly at night.

I would recommend these apartments if you are staying with family or in a large group. They are by no means luxury but do the job.
