“The worst”

I booked online not to know the horror I was about to endure. The room I was given, number 48, had no windows, no chairs, table or desk. The "king size bed was two single beds pushed together. I have travelled extensively over the years and this hotel is the worst I have ever stayed in. Aviod it at all costs. The only saving grace was that the staff were nice.

“Friendly staff, great location”

We stayed four nights here and found it very family friendly. The staff could not do enough for us, even the housekeeping staff were bright and cheerful. Located right in the centre of the CBD, everything was close by, Woolies across the road, Mc donalds within walking distance, along with many other restaurants. The pools were great to swim in and an on site bar and restaurant meant that you could relax by the pool all day of you wanted to. Clean apartments/rooms and all appliances working. We will definitely return here.

Room Tip: We looked on wot if.com before we went, but travelodge matched this rate for us anyway. Wot if has p...

“WOW - What a Great Surprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2012

We booked as a mystery deal (very keen rate) and when we checked it out on Trip Advisor were ambivilant. This was our last stay up here and we had stayed in 5 other properties prior.

Well - did we have it wrong. This place is FUN. Sure the rooms may be a little tired and dated (we had an Executive Room which is 4 star) but it had clean furniture in good condition and a very comfy king bed. And the air conditioner worked awesome, although room did have a bit of a musty smell that improved during the stay.

There is life at this place. The best thing though is the pool. We had tried 5 pools in Darwin and all were way to warm to feel refreshed. This place has shade cloth FULLY across one pool and this pool is refreshing. You feel revived in the heat up here.

And eating beside the pool is a pleasure with overhead fans to keep you cool. We had big buckets of some of the best prawns we have eaten in a while, and the steak sandwhiches were amongst the best had in our travels. Bar drink prices were good with an OK range of wines by the glass. Unfortunately the reds were way to warm to enjoy (bar staff - find a cooler spot for reds!)

The main restaurant seemed a little pricey for what you get. Seems a lot of government agencies use this place as a base and may eat there. Car parking is tight in the evenings, which is why we eat in most nights.

Room Tip: There is a wide range of rooms here in different complexes. Guess you get what you pay for

“Basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

In an overpriced and not very exciting city, the Travelodge is a reasonably priced and not very exciting hotel. Granted, it’s no frills, from the tacky Flintstones like swimming pool to the basic Ikea type rooms, but you get what you pay for (A$60 a night). To keep the prices down, the hotel is seriously under staffed: there is always a queue at the reception desk and we had to wait until noon to get a room (and this is low season… ). But they compensate by typical Aussie kindness (thanks Stuart for speeding up the room availability process). The hotel is located a tad out of the way, but due to the city’s limited “downtown” size, that is not an issue. On the plus side, there is a Woolworth’s just opposite the hotel which, given the extortionate prices at Darwin’s restaurants and bars (A$14 a cocktail at the pool bar, more than in a hip Paris place! ), does come in handy. It is also a hub for all the buses to go to the NT museum or other mildly interesting local attractions, such as the shopping mall or Crocodylus Park. Finally, the best thing about the hotel is its guest coin laundry (even if 3 out of the 4 dryers were out of order), that enabled us to arrive in Timor with a “clean” suitcase.

Dear RendezVousParis,

Thank you for providing feedback about your stay with us.

We have shared your feedback with our team, hotel check in time is 2pm - pleasing to see we accommodated your early arrival by having your room ready by noon.

We apologise for 3 of the 4 dryers in that particular guest laundry being out of service, unfortunately these things do happen and we are in the process of waiting on parts for these to be fixed, there is another guest laundry located int he hotel where all units are working.

Once again, thank you for your for your feedback.

Kind regards

“Budget room is budget standard but hotel has great pool facilites and great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed for 7 nights over Christmas - visiting family in Darwin for Christmas before headlng off to Bali for 17 nights holiday. So I did not want to spend too much money on accommodation in Darwin.
We got to the hotel at about 2am after a midnight flight and I had the room booked for that night - so we did not have any hassles with check in - reception open 24hrs - so nice and easy check in straight to our room. Parking off street.
We booked budget room, and got a very good off season special rate, so it met budget room expectations. Family of 4 - 2 adults 2 children 12y and 14y - 1 x king bed and 2 x singles. Small budget room but had been freshly painted and had flat screen TV. No room for entertaining in the room - just sleeping and watching tv. Room had safe - (had to pay refundable key deposit), jug with tea and coffee, and small fridge but no mini bar which was good because we stocked it from the Woolworths across the road.

The pool and lounge area at this hotel are fantastic, great to relax and dip in the pool to cool down. two pool areas, spa and baby pool.

There was a problem with fridge and we had to enquire twice to reception before issue was fixed - fridge was replaced - which we appreciated. Air conditioned unit worked great but it did drip a little bit - we just wiped up with bath mat towel.
Whilst this room was budget accommodation standard - the bathroom and bed linen could do with some renovation. If you can afford it probably best to stay in the 4star rooms or the family townhouses but if you want budget and still have access to great facilities then this is an ok room. This room type is not for the romantic or the 1st class traveller but if you have backpacked or stayed in the 2-3star European hotels then you will be ok in this budget room. Budget Rooms open to the outside area so you do get flying bugs or mosquios if you leave the door open.
There is a great little gym which is air-conditioned and I used every morning until my crew woke up. There is a bbq at the back of the rooms (not near the pool) and laundry - all work well. We had family over for a bbq then used the pool.

There is a restaurant which has breakfast included in some room rates but not budget rate so I bought cereal and a toaster from Woolworths and we had breakfast in our room most mornings- which was difficult given the limited space but the cheaper option for us ( we were saving our money for Bali shopping and activities). There are also some cheaper cafes around and we got breakfast for about $10 a head.
I have stayed at this hotel twice - once in townhouse which has extra room for the family with lounge and kitchenette and once in the budget room. I would stay here again but I have no illusions about the size or standard of the budget rooms. I would probably go for a townhouse if I could get a good rate online - just for the extra room and kitchen. This hotel is a great option if you get a special online rate through wotif. It is perfectly located in town with the ‘crocosaurus park’ and restaurants and bars located within walking distance 2 blocks over. We had a hire car to visit family and do activites out of town - we organised access to the undercover parking garage for an extra $10daily beacuse we were concerned about the storm which did not really happen.

Overall great hotel with great facilities, and staying in a budget room was better than trying to bunk the family down in my brothers loungeroom sofabed!

Room Tip: Budget room is budget standard - but ok if your not looking for a fancy room but still want access t...
