My partner and I just got back from a 4 day mini break at Moonshadow Villas minutes from Darwin centre. It was our first time in Darwin and we were warned about the time of year we were going due to the hot, oh so hot climate. Needless to say, our friends were right!! It was hot but thankfully Moonshadow villas gave us a break from the heat and the private, tropical pool area was the best part.
There are only 5 villas each unique in their decor, lay out and they all lead to the pool with their own entrance. The pools are plunge pools with waterfalls and overhanging trees to create a lovely shady area to escape the serious humidity at this time of year with a quick dip, then back to the air con or ceiling fans (everywhere). Our Villa, the Mimi villa was just beautiful. It was spotlessly clean, well appointed and very 5 star. All self contained, Peter, Moya and Lawrence have thought of everything to meet your needs. They even pre shop for you (upon request) and will get your favourite bottle of chilled whatever for when you arrive. This is additional to the courtesy bottle of wine and they even throw in a couple of chilled beers to get you started as well as your breakfast pack (very generous) Because the flights into Darwin direct from Melbourne are normally the "red eye", they leave the air conditioning running and lights on for your early morning arrival. These extra special touches all add to the VIP treatment that Moonshadow offers all their guests.
Our villa could have slept up to 4 people with an extra room with 2 single beds and their own bathroom. The master bedroom upstairs is big as well as a huge ensuite bathroom and walk in robe. The self contained kitchen does the job with all cutlery and crockery provided. A laundry thrown in creates the feel of your own home away from home. I especially liked how clean and well maintained all the villas are, as is the outdoor space (Thanks Ron!!!)
We found the Moonshadow villas on "Wotif" and their rates made this trip even better with big savings to be had if you book through Wotif for a last minute break - a good idea trying out Wotif Moya and Lawrence !!! Well done.
So, we will definitely be back in the dry season and will be staying for much longer next time as Darwin is quite an amazing little city. Whilst we chose not to venture too far from the air conditioning this trip, had we wanted to, Moonshadow staff can provide all the details for tours, trips and places to eat and see.
Moya and her team even allowed us to stay on in the villa for an extra few hours after our flight was delayed. Whilst this may have not been a big deal to them, it made a big difference to my partner and I to be able to "hang out" in the cool villa until our flight finally left.
Overall, a great place to stay for long or short term, couples or families and a big thanks to Peter, Moya, Lawrence and Ron for your amazing hospitality - you made a sad time for me back home a little bit easier.
