“Camp ground is the only reasonable option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Ayers rock and the olgas are natural wonders than you cannot afford to miss when you visit Australia and as you will spend your days outside, walking, hiking and dreaming, just forget about spending too much money on accommodation; just go for the Campground. It's convenient, has large enough bungalows for families of 4 or more, it's fun for kids, part of the Australian big adventure. Liked it a lot.

“cheapest accomodation at ayers rock, good value”

this is the cheapest acomodation i found at ayers rock. I chose a bungalow for 4 people, but we stayed in 2. The bungalow is nice, big and there are lots of barbecue areas in the campground. Toilets were clean enough. Bus service is frequent if you want to go to restaurants at other resorts

“Very average camp ground”

Massive power plant powering Yulara sound like a jet taking off behind the bushes. Best to camp to the left hand side as youre driving in and not down the back. Toilet and shower facilities okay but old nd run down. No shade in pool.

“An enjoyable campervaning experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We parked our campervan here while at Uluru. Very happy with the facilities available. Ample cooking / BBQ facilities and we cooked our meals every night, apart from dinner at the Sounds Of Silence which was a great experience. Plenty of warm showers available. We also had easy access to power and water for our campervan and a nice sized lot where we can set up our table and chairs for a meal next to our campervan. We stocked up on groceries and fuel in Alice Springs as it is a lot more expensive in Ayers Rock, as you would expect, being out in the outback. We also had a can of RID so werent bothered by insects - you need it in the outback. Location is amongst the resorts, hotels and apartments in Ayers Rock, they are all in the same area. Overall a very enjoyable campervaning experience.

“Only good value because hotels are so expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

Ummm... what can I say, we decided to stay at the campground as we were trying to keep costs down and the hotels all seemed over-priced.

Having stayed in all types of accomodation in my lifetime, I thought that the cabins were ok but have some issues:-

Noise - we were kept awake by the neighbours who were in full party mode as the walls are paper thin. I like a drink myself but in a campground you have to think about other residents!

Smell - the cabin we had smelt of old food / cooking smells which was a bit unpleasant.

The insects are a bit of a challenge now and again...take some Raid for your cabin

On the positive side, they have air-con fitted which is a blessing in the midday heat, its not fierce but its adequate and means the bed room isn't too hot at night. The pool area was fine, with spaces even though it was busy and we could also use the Outback Pioneer pool if we wanted.

Bathroom facilities were clean if a bit basic but you are camping at the end of the day.

We ate at the Outback Pioneer both nights, the atmosphere was good and the food seemed to be priced fairly compared to other resort restaurants. We had a lunch in the Gecko Cafe, having started off outside the flies proved too much so we had to go inside.

There is a bit of a standing joke about the flies in the outback....you just have to grit your teeth and get on with it!

Of course the whole point of this is to see Uluru which was majestic and that is what I shall remember from this portion of my trip
