“The cheapest accomodation near Uluru”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

As everything was booked during my last minute trip to Uluru, I need to stay at Outback Pioneer Lodge in 20-beds dormitory. Well, at least it was only one night but the price was amazing even for stay in this dorm. The dorms were quite dirty, bathrooms with showers were quite away, so especially during cold desert night was difficult to handle however Uluru is amazing and everything is worth visiting it.

The nice thing about it is BBQ in common kitchen.
The internet is extremely expensive!

Room Tip: If you want to have good sleep stay away from kitchen and swimming pool!

Thanks for the great review.
I will be following up as to the cleanliness of the ablution blocks and I do apologise if there were not 100% during your stay.
The resort is under new owners and you would be pleased to note that we are looking in the very near future to refurbish the entire ablution blocks to create a much more modern service to our guests.
In relation to the internet, this is currently run by a 3rd party company and we are in the process of looking into alternatives to ensure the guests have the best value possible for this much needed service.

Have a great day
Cheers

“Worst hotel ever”

We stayed at the Outback Pioneer Hotel for one night in December as part of our trip through Australia. Unfortunately, we could have easily done without this stop and tacked on a day and a half in another city. For the rate we paid for a standard room ($340), we expected more than hostel-like accommodations. The room had cinder-block walls, there were dead bugs all over the floor, there was an unbearable stench in the room, and the fan either blew freezing cold air, or you were stuck being hot. We pretty much were awake the whole night between the fan and watching to make sure the geckos on the wall didn't fall onto the bed. My advice: skip it.

Thanks for your review TravelingGirl44

It is a shame to read of the disappointment with your accommodation whilst staying with us.
The Outback pioneer is visited by 10's of thousands of guests each year who love the authentic environment we are nestled in that coexists with all modern convenience our guests can enjoy but we understand it is not for everyone. We position ourselves as an entry to mid range accommodation offering with over 6 different types of rooms at our resort alone.

Ayers Rock Resort as a whole offers accommodation for all standards and all possible budgets from the campground / cabins, the modern and funky 4 star lost camel hotel, the relaxing charm of Desert gardens resort right up to the 5 star sophistication of Sails in the desert and the exclusive Multi award winning Longitude 131. The resort was designed in this way to ensure we were in reach for all guests on all budgets to see this truly breathtaking part of the world.

In relation to the build quality of the room you stayed in I can assure you that there was every effort made to have the rooms not only blend into its surroundings but, protect its occupants from the harsh elements in the heat of summer .With this in mind the insulation qualities of rendered cinder blocks was a very successful choice, coupled with user/thermostat controlled air-conditioning in every room makes them a real oasis from the elements.

My apologies for the gecko in the room, I have found this to be one of the challenges we face when being sensitive not to intrude as much as possible with the local flora and fauna. I can assure you they work wonder in keeping away fly’s and usually love to have their picture taken.

The smell you mentioned is an issue that I will certainly look into; based on your description I can look into these room types and see if there is an engineering issue that need attention.

I do hope you were able to take in the enormity and beauty of Uluru and Kata Tjuta up close, as these truly are incredible and culturally significant parts of this amazing country.

All this being said I would love to see you visit us again, perhaps we could look at another style of accommodation and show you the best in what the red centre has to offer.

I hope the remainder of your holiday was safe and enjoyable

Take Care

“Probably the best price/quality accommodation in Ayers Rock”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We read all the TA reviews before booking and did not know what to expect. The price was high 256 €, But then again in Australia and especially in Yulara all prices were high so it did not seem so high after all. We booked a standard room not a budget room and I am happy that we did. Our room was quite spacious with a double and a single bed for 3 people. Beds were comfortable. There was a small table and chairs to sit and drink coffee. Our room was clean, so was the bathroom. air-conditioning worked well. TV was Ok. We had a fridge and a kettle to make some coffee or tea. We had a problem with some bugs that enetered our room, because the room door opened right to outside. A swimming-pool was opposite the street near the restaurant that was a refreshing during a very hot day. We did not have breakfast, but had a dinner buffee that was expensive and rather avarage but you do not have much choise if you are staying in Yulara. We only stayed for a night and were able to visit both Uluru and Katja Tjuta mountains and even to walk to the gorge and see the Uluru on sunrise. One day and one night was just the right time to stay.
There is just the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Natural park and a tourist village with 4-6 small motels/ hotels near the park with some restaurants, all are meant for tourists, no local people around. So it is understandable that the prices are as high as they are..

Room Tip: Standard room is definetily better than budget room although a bit more expensive.

Gday reet02

Thanks for taking the time to comment, it is a very thorough review and we certainly appreciate the feedback.

The rooms can sometimes be perceived to be quite high but we do offer many alternatives for all budgets, in-fact the scale begins with our single beds at $14 per person.
Although I can personally attest to working hard to provide the best value we can, the biggest factor in our pricing is the much larger costs associated with running such a remote and stand alone resort.
I truly hope we can invite you back to return to this wonderful part of the world.

Safe travels

“Pretty good overall, best value for money in Ayers rock anyway!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

I ve been there twice and I can say this is probably the best value for money in Ayer rock, where all the accomodations are so over priced. The resort is clean, the rooms are reasonnably big, the beds are ok, staff is nice, and there is a good BBQ option with live music at night. However I agree, pool is not super clean, and some people might think it is a bit costly for what you get. However, again, I think AUD $130 for a 2 people room/ night, is actually not bad at all for the area.
If you re 4, I suggest you rather go for a dorm in the "Outback Pioneer Lodge" seciton!

Room Tip: Far from the pool if possible (very noisy)

“most enjoyable stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

My daughter and I were worried about our stay due to some of the tripadvisor reviews. However we were treated like royalty and given a lovely big clean room with kitchenette away from the bar. Our room had a great air conditioner, champagne in the fridge, comfortable beds, and wonderful large clean bathroom. There is a huge wonderful sparkling clean pool with lounge chairs under the shade of the trees or under cover with a cool mist spray. Swimming towels are provided for you in your room (if you ask).
The bar has live music at night and creates such a wonderful atmosphere.
A shuttle bus arrives every 20mins and takes you around to all the other hotels and the shopping centre (which has a good IGA and reasonably priced cafes as well as the Red Wok take away.
The hotel staff are all SO friendly and cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable. The atmosphere is just so relaxed and casual, and the place has a great vibe.

Thanks to Felicity and Ben for making this such a memorable Uluru experience.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room ask for a room away from the bar. Email the hotel before you arrive and the...

Hi There jeanAustralia

It was a pleasure looking after both you and your daughter during your stay with us and I do hope that we were able to offer you some fantastic memories to take back home with you.
The team that I am lucky enough to work with here are completely dedicated to providing our guests a real individual and efficient service whilst keeping our surroundings and outlets as relaxed as possible.
After all it is the genuine Outback hospitality that people travel from all over the world to experience.
You would be pleased to know that we are building a towel caddy at the pool that will house many towels and a sunscreen station in the near future.

I will ensure to pass on a thank you to all the team.

We hope to see you again soon.
Kind regards
