“Nice layout, shame about the accommodation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

The place looked good on arrival but a quick view of the swimming pool didn't bode well. It was dirty in one corner and nobody was in or around it. The accommodation for 3 adults comprised 3 single beds which was a bit cramped with very little storage for clothes/cases. There was tea/coffee making and the shower/toilet was adequate but the only places within easy walking distance was the Crowne Plaza next door or Lassiters. Fortunately the reception mentioned the golf club which is directly behind the complex. What a godsend! Only a 2 minute walk out the back gate, no charge to join for the day, good food and drink at reasonable prices without the long walk into Alice Springs.

Thank you for your feed back, we rely on feed back to keep our standards high as a 3.5 star property. I am sorry to read the swimming pool was dirty in one corner. It is cleaned every day and the chemical level checked. Unfortunately all the palm trees are flowering and the seeds keep dropping into the water and with the water circulating means they end up in one corner. It is our quiet season at the moment which is probably the reason there were no guests around to use the pool. I notice you mention there was tea/coffee in the rooms. We also have in the rooms a microwave, electric frying pan, toaster and crockery/cutlery plus a fridge and guests can buy food or liquor from our kiosk. I agree we are not in the centre of town but there is 8 eating houses between the Casino, Crowne Plaza and Golf Course and we are also considered to be in the tourist accommodation precinct of Alice Springs with many people preferring this location to the middle of town. I am sorry to see you only gave our sleep quality 2 stars, I can assure you though the queen beds are brand new and many people find them very comfortable. I can also assure you my staff do work very hard to make sure the rooms are very clean, it is something I am extremely fussy about. I also stress and ensure all my staff are very friendly and helpful to all guests and are sorry to read you only gave them 3 stars. I read you found the room cramped and agree they are quiet cramped with a queen and 2 single beds but the demand is there as people do not want or are on budgets and so only want to pay for 1 room when perhaps 2 would be more suitable. Once again many thanks for your feed back as we do take on board peoples comments both good and bad. Regards Angie Reidy Owner

We stayed for 3 nights, just as a short getaway, and had a great time. The swimming pool was great to relax next to. The rooms were clean, staff were friendly. It was exactly what we were lookin for.

“Take care with your family.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 November 2011

I stayed with my family recently at this hotel. A word of caution to other families considering this hotel. Management appears to condone prostitution at this motel. It was quite evident with men calling on various rooms at all hours and only staying half to one hour. Not good when some of the rooms are quite visible from the pool.

Thank you for your comment which I was shocked to read. I do feel though that it may have been when the men's golf tournament was on this October and we had 20 rooms booked out to the group. I notice you said it was men calling on rooms and not woman, yes the men were going from each others rooms all evenings visiting each other and generally having a good time. I can assure you I have owned the Desert Palms Resort for over 20 years and have never ever condoned prostitution. We have always promoted the Desert Palms to travelers and families and I would not want to damage our good reputation by condoning prostitution. I was also sorry to see your felt our cleanliness and sleep quality was only 1 star, we try very very hard to keep our rooms spotlessly clean. If there was any problems it is a shame you could not bring this to the managers/reception notice and they would certainly have rectified the problem. I also notice you only gave service a 2 star, the two receptionists and manager try very hard to help people and be cheerful, once again if you did have a problem it would have been nice to know at the time. Thank you for your comments we do appreciate feedback to try and keep our standards for a 3.5 star property high.

“Fun in the Desert”

Stayed for two nights and loved it. the accommodation is 3 1/2 star and very clean and well maintained. The area is lovely, walking distance to the Casino and views to the Macdonald Ranges. Staff were helpful and polite, i loved sitting on the verandah of the villa and drinking a glass of wine while watching the sun go down over the ranges. The kitchenette was just right for putting together breakfast and making snacks for our day trips. I thought the resort offered great value for money, it was safe and secure and i will stay here again next time i visit The Alice.

Earlier this month (September) I needed to travel to Alice Springs and booked into the Desert Palms Resort. Being driven along Barrett Drive I could see the greenest ever grass contrasted against the surrounding dryness and otherwise barron sourroundings. This was Desert Palms Resort, with the coolest and most relaxing pool, a very humble and helpful Resort Manager, a beaut chalet with all that one needs to wind down. A GREAT place to stay and will definately be back. Thank you Desert Palms Resort.
