“Comfy rooms, good food. Good atmosphere.”

Rooms are spacious and well fitted out. Restaurant is very good for dinner, not bad for breakfast (supermarket bread isn't great). Service is friendly (Mariana at dinner service is a delight) although breakfast and reception appeared to be understaffed at times. Pool is good, with a swim-up bar that I never saw open, but there is a bar adjacent to the pool area. The pool alongside the restaurant gives the eating/social area a very casual, relaxed vibe.

“Very good experience”

The front desk staff that I encountered were quite helpful especially a lady named "Donna", if I remember correctly. Originally, I booked the standard room but there were issues when we arrived. We were offered a free upgrade to a "Superior room" which I thought was generous. And the superior rooms were very clean and beautiful.

The only criticisms I can make is that the breakfast and dinner choices at the hotel are overly expensive. Also, free Wifi is only available at the cafeteria and not at the rooms.

“Very good value hotel location in the Alice”

Our party of two couples (+60 yo) stayed a total of three nights and judged that the hotel met our expectations as a comfortable 4 star accommodation house. We enjoyed two consecutive nights at the Barra on Todd restaurant, enjoying both good quality seafood and well priced wine, noting the friendly attentive service. On the third evening, we dined elsewhere only because we wanted to see what else the Alice had to offer. We enjoyed hearty and reasonably priced breakfasts on three occasions. The hotel is situated in a picturesque location close to the centre of the town. As we were dropping off our Hertz vehicle in the Alice, it was most convenient to see the Hertz office located in the hotel complex.

“Good stopover point travelling through NT”

Arrived here for a 2 night stay, having booked via the hotel website on the Red Centre Special, a good deal on a Superior Room with Breakfast and a late check out all for $258 AUD. I had used TA to find a hotel / check the hotels mentioned in the Rough Guide and with the mixed reviews all Alice hotels seem to get I booked the Chifley feeling a bit aprehensive.

On arrival we were checked in very quickly and shown to a ground floor room. It was very big and seemed recently decorated. The safe was big enough to get the laptop in and plently of tea etc.. provided, overall I was pleased with it all.

Bathroom was ok, the shower drain was a bit smelly initially but that went away.

Breakfast in Barra on Todd was good both from service and quality perspective and we also ate there one evening and again the service was good and food / wine excellent.

On trying to obtain a card for Wifi in the room we were told that they were having problems with it but free Wifi was available in the lobby.

As we were travelling light we made use of the laundry facilities - washing machines and drier - very useful and cheap.

Its approx 5 min walk to Alice (bit longer if its hot!). We explored a bit but found that several "attractions" were shut, the Gaol and Residency for instance but we walked up Anzac Hill and the views were great. I would consider myself to be quite fit and I don't normally suffer too much in the heat but we climbed the hill at midday and it was hard work, make sure you have some water and a hat as there is no shade up there.

There is a second hand bookshop in the centre of Alice which is a good place to trade in your books get some money back and make your suitcase lighter.

We went and had a night out in Bojangles - good food and jugs of beer at a reasonable price, nice atmosphere.

Owner / Manager? likes to have laugh with the ladies over the toilet door, you need to play along......

“No Internet available for 4 days”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

I cannot believe a hotel of this standing in the middle of town has such a rubbish Internet service provided by a company called "PIE". After spending 30 minutes trying to get connected in my room, I was finally told that the whole guest internet system was not working and hadn't been working for some days. Despite PIE being based in Alice Springs, they were apparently unable to fix the problem and cannot get here for another 2 days. The hotel should NOT put up with this complete lack of service.
I chose this hotel as I have lots of business to do but will have to go and stay elsewhere now because of the lack of Internet.
Other than that the hotel is pleasant, but business travelers - look elsewhere.
