OK, so it's never ging to get 5 stars but this place is a great little stopover and the real deal in terms of Aussie outback experiences. We chose a night here so we could see the Devil's Marbles both at sunset and sunrise. In the end, we didn't bother with sunrise but that's another story.
So, we booked via Email. Bruce was efficient in his communication with us - something along the lines of "Room 2, $85, pay when you get here. No worries". The hotel is really a roadhouse with some pre-fab cabins out the back. The cabins are small, basic but spotlessly clean and served us well for the night. The roadhouse itself is eccentric and boasts the inimitable Bruce himself plus a host of young overseas workers who presumably pay their way round Australia by working for a while.
The bar is good with an extensive selection and all very well priced. The dining room has recently been refurbished and is very smart. We ate well cooked basic meals that were generous and tasty for a very good price indeed. There's a nice beer garden and even some public conveniences which you can use if passing through the area but not staying - all for a gold coin donation for the Variety Club or similar. I liked that; I thought it a really nice touch. There is even a nice-looking pool if you feel so inclined.
So, bottom line - good value for money place with all the basics and far superior than a depressing night an hour up the road in Tennant Creek
