“Pleasantly surprised!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed in early February 2012 and was pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were modern and clean with a good bed and fresh linen, working air-con and a small, but nice (and again modern and clean) en-suite bathroom. Although very near the centre of Kings Cross and all the backpackers hostels and nightclubs, it was very quiet and comfortable. Recommended, especially at the very low price.

“Great place but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

When I first walked in I thought 'my god this is old and grotty' but going up to reception I realised although old everything was spotless and there was no 'old building musty smell'. My room was basic but had everything I needed, shower, airconditioning, tea/coffee supplies and it was very clean, which is most important to me. It is as other reviews state, very central and easy to catch the train at Kings Cross Station to anywhere in Sydney even the airport. There is a market underground oppersite which you can purchase anything you need for dinner and there is a communal kitchen in the lodge should you decide to cook there. The reception is open from 7.30am - 7.30 pm only, so you need to make sure you have all the information you need from them, before they close. On the street side terrace, there is a attached cafe, which provides breakfast lunch and dinners and the food is fresh and delicious. If you like people watching King Cross is really great, although when I walked to the 7/11( which is really close) at six in the morning, there were still a lot of 'proffessional ladies, druggies and just plain weird looking people, around Darlinghurst Road, not a good place for a lady to go to at night. At night it does get a little noisy but for the budget price you can't get everything. You need to pack your own hairdryer, as there is only one availabe at reception. Watch out for the shuttle to the airport, although it is only $12.00, it took 1 hour and 15 minutes, so if you choose this option allow plenty of time! I would have no hesitation staying there again.

Springfield Lodge is a hidden gem on the Cross. Wonderful staff, great location, food downstairs and the new aircon in the rooms makes the missing view on lower levels even sweeter. Real value for money!
My little getaway from it all in my own town, but don't tell anyone....

“4 day stay in Sydney”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed here from jan 18th-22nd 2012 and was a little worried due to google maps showing a building site opposite and the fact the location is just off darlinghurst road...

As we turned the corner into the road we was glad to see the building site was now built and an indoor market was in its place ( grocery store )

We went to reception and was greeted well and even tho it was earlier than the check in stated we was allowed our room as it was ready ( 101 )

Our room was clean and nice the en-suite was a little small and a sliding door off the bedroom ... The bedroom was smaller than expected but it was more than adequate as we wasn't going to be in it much!

Beds were made everyday reception was helpful when asking where to go or help needed on trips.

Room entry was via a card and after 11pm the same card opened the hotel front door as it was locked for the night ... But if u was locked out because u left ur key there was a phone point direct to them to let u in.

We never ate at the hotel as there was so much choice in the city but the food we saw being served looked nice!

Overall we had no complaints with anything and because the hotel is off darlinghurst road u are well away from the noise and the hustle and bustle of it all which is great!!
Also no noise from other guests in the hotel at all which was great as I like quiet at night time.

I would recommend if u have to go back to the airport to get the hotel to get u a shuttle which is cheaper than the rail just make sure u book it and leave in plenty of time we booked the shuttle for 5pm as we had to check into the airport for 6.15 at the latest and arrived at 6 as they had other guests to collect en-route so make sure u get it at least an hour and half before u have to check in. There's lots to do in the airport so u won't be bored if ur there early.

Also if u are a first time traveller to Sydney like we was then if u are staying for 4/5+ days then buy a " my multi card " from the tube stations .. It's valid for a week and allows travel on all bus tube and ferries within the " zone " u require it for ... We had " zone " 1 which allowed for the opera house sydney tower Bondi beach darling harbour manly beach plus many more!!

Also take some comfy walking shoes as we done lots of walking as its like London with the sun we found!!

Also the hotel has lots of maps to help u get around by the reception.

One last thing if u want to fit it 2+ of the attractions then we found that the best place to buy them from was darling harbour aquarium they had buy 2 get a 3rd one free so we done aquarium wildlife place next door and Sydney tower for 60 dollars!!
