“Very large apartment and excellent value by Sydney Standards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We originally booked a 2 bedroom apartment but there had been a double booking and fortunately we were given a 1 bedroom apartment each which worked out very well. The apartment is fully equipped with all kitchen equipment, a tv in the bedroom and living room, washer/dryer and a large balcony. Location is slightly out of the way, being a good 30-40 minute walk to Circular quay (the Opera House etc) but there is a train station very close by which gets you into the city very quickly.

For the amount we paid, and by the generally outrageous prices of literally everything else in Sydney, this was by far and away the best value we found during the trip.

“OAKS HARMONY GIVES OAKS HOTEL GROUP A BAD NAME”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

I have stayed at several OAKS apartment hotels around NSW and must say that my first experience at OAKS Harmony was very disappointing from the moment I arrived for my 5 night stay over the NYE period which I brought my grandchildren to as a special treat to watch the Sydney fireworks.

After being asked to pre-pay at check-in the almost $2,500 for 5 nights, I was overcharged by $185 and then told to sign a $150 pre-authorisation for "incidentals". I was then told that because of the public holidays there would be no housekeeping until the following Tuesday (I checked in on Friday 30th December). When I arrived at our 19th floor 2 bedroom apartment I was quite relieved to find it clean and spacious but for 5 people there were only 4 towels so I went back down to reception to ask for more towels only to be told that it would cost me $2 for each extra towel. I said that women like to have a towel for their hair to which it was repeated to me that it would cost $2 each for extra towels to which I replied to put it onto the "incidentals". I remarked that I have stayed at several OAKS hotels and have never been charged for extra towels and in fact have never been charged for extra towels at other hotel groups around the globe. How disappointing after spending $2,500 for 5 nights to then be charged $2 for each extra towel. I was furious because it wasn't the money but the principle of the matter. But a more stressful situation was to come...

We set out about town for that day and night (the good thing about the hotel is that it is in an ideal location close to everything) and the following afternoon after we had all been for a swim (using the same bath towels from the previous night's shower, the morning shower, and for after swimming and shower), I rang reception asking for our towels to be replaced and at first was told housekeeping was not open but after I persisted, stating they can't expect us to use the same towels for 5 days, I was told to bring the towels to reception to be replaced as there was nobody else on duty. I felt humiliated lugging all the wet towels into the lift in front of other guests down to reception to be replaced. This was definitely not a good look for a hotel lobby! For the next few days I decided to wash the towels myself in the apartment washing machine and dryer rather than being put through that stress again of practically begging for clean towels.

It's those little things that spoil what should have been a very satisfying experience. However I decided to get on with my holiday because I was happy with the apartment with its big balcony and the hotel's great location. I was very pleased on checkout to find the charge for the extra towels had been waived, so whilst my arrival experience was quite unpleasant, my departure was much much better.

Room Tip: High up (19th floor) Quay Street side, 2 bedroom split level.

“Good Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

I was in Sydney for 17 days on business. The 1 br unit I had was fine, street noise minimal and the room very comfortable. Pretty full kitchen although cooking utensils are light. Plenty of TV channels but could use a newer TV. Washer and Dryer IN UNIT. VERY nice to have on a longer trip. Location is good - but it's in Haymarket which is a jumping part of Sydney with lots of food choices and lots of students etc. Wasn't ever an issue for me. Very close to Central Station which makes getting around super easy. Lots of room in the unit - and given a tiny room in a place like the Travellodge (horrid) cost more or the same I'm happy to do without a restaurant or room service. Cons - not many really. Carpet could be cleaner and reception is only open 8am-8pm - not an issue for me but could be for others. I would stay here again for sure.

“Great location and spacious accommodations!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2011

My family was coming over to Sydney for a visit, so I chose to put them in Oaks Harmony for a week. I was very happy with my decision.

The apartment was spacious, clean, and affordable. The location is right by Central Station and George St. so it's extremely convenient and surprisingly not noisy at all.

If you're looking for a decent serviced apartment in Sydney, this is it.

“Superb Accommodation, Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 November 2011

My family stayed at the Oaks Harmony Apartments for 12 Nights, we also had a 11 month old baby with us. We stayed in apartment 49, which was a 2 bedroom split level apartment. There was a double bedroom with ensuite downstairs, and all the living area and 2nd bedroom upstairs. The apartment was huge! I was very concerned about staying at the Oaks Harmony after reading previous reviews but i can honestly say i could not fault this place. The apartment is located 2 minutes from Central Station and walking distance from Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. The staff were friendly and helpful if ever we needed them. The swimming pool and gym are located under the hotel and you just need to walk through the covered car park, but it really wasnt a problem. If ever i returned to Sydney i would definately stay here again!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Quay Street.
