“Nice for a budget get away”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

This hotel was ok for a cheap long weekend. I stayed in a twin share which was located on the 4th floor. The elevator was so slow I challenged to beat my friend up via the stairs. We both arrived at the 4th floor from ground at the same time, with out me running. I then dreaded using the elevator knowing I could walk just as fast.

Our room was neat and tidy. Just big enough for two people and luggage. There was no remote for the tv or air con so they were both either on or off. There was no phone.

The bathroom was the smallest I've seen in a hotel. Every time I was in there I was sure to bump an elbow. But in saying that, it was still a bathroom everything worked fine.

The hotel only gave us one key, I ask for another one and they said they could hand us another one that couldn't leave the hotel if one of us came back on our own. Neither of us had to use this option but it was good to know it was there.

There was a vending machine on the ground floor as well as a computer with free internet access.

On the first floor had the kitchen, eating area, laundry and shared rooms with the shared bathrooms and toilets. Even though I didn't use any of these rooms I have taken pictures to share.

Central station was only a short distance away. You can pretty much get a train to anywhere from there. Along the way there was restaurants and lots of places to buy food. Darling harbor and china town was only a short walk away.

If you can't sleep with noise the trains are the only thing that woke me up when they started running around 5-6am

“Very Disappointing Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This place should not be classified as a hotel (Hilton, Kimpton, Marriott, etc) or even a budget hotel (Holiday Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, etc). This is a hostel. Had it been advertised as such, it would be less disappointing to those who stay.

There are three big problems with this place:

-There is a roach infestation.
-There appears to be a problem with the more unsavory types of people coming and going.
-The staff are uncaring, unaccommodating, and rude.

My family booked two rooms here in late December 2011. One was a triple and the other was a double ensuite. Both rooms cost exactly the same online.

Upon check in, we arrived to find a sizable roach dying in the middle of the room. When the manager was informed of this, she merely brushed it off, saying "This is Australia! We have roach problems here. I can't guarantee any other room will be roach-free. There is nothing I can do." That alone should have been a warning sign, but as everything was prepaid we could not leave and be refunded. We decided to suck it up and brave the 3 night stay.

At length, we managed to get the manager to concede to moving rooms. She ended up moving us to a smoking floor right above the communal kitchen. It was as if she was trying her hardest to escalate guest dissatisfaction.

When we asked the dark hair man working with the manager if there were any smoking rooms in the hotel, he said, "No. Everything is non-smoking. If we catch anyone smoking, we will kick them out." However, a quick check on Sydney Central on Wentworth's own website shows that smoking rooms are available for booking... Later that night, when we discovered that the ensuite room could sleep three people, we asked if we could change the triple to an ensuite since we paid the same price for both rooms. The same dark hair man snapped said "No! We did you favor by moving your rooms already. There is nothing more we can do without charging you extra."

Clearly, the staff does not even try for the tiniest bit of customer satisfaction. They don't care that there are roaches, unclean rooms (we received 1 day of service out of the 3 days we should have gotten service), and horrifying communal bathrooms. They have made it clear that they don't care one bit about the customer at all.

The only thing they show a crazy passion for is enforcing the registered guests only policy. We witnessed the night auditor literally chasing down a very plain harmless looking couple to the elevators and demanding to know if they were registered. He was very brusque. Once the couple confirmed their registered status, he stormed off without even an apology for the mistake. It appears they try very hard to keep the unwanted out, but the fact that they have to do that also raises concerns.

All in all, avoid staying here at all costs. There must be similarly located places at the same price in Sydney but with cleaner rooms and a more pleasant staff.

“Very overpriced for what it is but good location”

Stayed here over the christmas and new year season so the already inflated price for this 2star hotel was even more over the top. Front of house staff are very unfriendly and can be quite rude. The room was ok, quite small but nice bathroom. I.e. not dirty. Please note there is no WiFi, you have to pay from $4 for an hours useage through to $35 for a week, however, the internet allowance is a disgrace and is in very small print beneath the prices. We purchased the weeks worth of internet so we could Skype our family over the festive period and it lasted a mere 10 minutes as we later found out you are only allocated 450mb worth of data. The manager more or less shrugged his shoulders after complaining, the whole thing was very underhand and misleading and it only highlighted the utter lack of value for money this place really is.

“Wentworth hotel in Sydney”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

The location is within walking distance to Sydney's main attraction, train station and buses.
Bus 555 free bus is an added bonus.
We had the use of the free internet for 10mins each log-on.
The reception is open 24 hours. Staff very obliging, friendly and courteous. The elevator was a great help to transport the luggage to the third floor.
The room very basic. We had the use of the fridge, tea/coffee making facilities.
Air condition noisy.
The knob to turn the electric fan was missing. This was reported but nothing was done. I was given a pair of pliers to turn the dial!!
The shower head did not operate properly....the water sprayed in all different directions, not where you want it to.
I killed a cockroach in the bathroom. I reported this and was told 'this is Australia'. Reception did come and sprayed the window sill. Later I discovered a dead cockroach down the stairs which was lying there for a few days. Very off putting.
It was useful to have laundry facilities.
The communal kitchen was quite 'rough' and I hesitated to use it.

The hotel was neat. The elevator was a great help with heavy luggage. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean and you could tell were attended to daily. The kitchen was a little gross; there were a few bugs, but cooking utensils were readily available. The people there were interesting. The 555 bus (which is free!) is half a second around the corner and takes you to most ofthe interesting parts if sydney such as town hall, QVB and circular quay. The location of the hotel is ideal for public transport, shopping, some foods and the CBD.
Overall, I would recommend if, especially like me, you are on a small budget.
