“Cheap, but you'd expect a bit better in a developed country”

My friend and I paid $60 for a room for one night and weren't expecting a heck of a lot. Normally the price was closer to $80 per night, so we thought we were getting a good deal. The website raved about "free coffee, tea, web etc" and the fact this room had a shower, sink and fridge in it. Upon arrival, we put our bags in the room and attempted to relax a bit and freshen up before heading into town. The (miniscule) TV was flicked on, but the reception made viewing impossible (there was actually no aerial cord in the room). No soap in the shower, so a visit to the common bathroom was made, only to find there was no soap there either (even for people washing their hands). My friend found some soap in the women's bathroom, but ironically there was no toilet paper in there.
We left for the city and arrived much later that night. Being the middle of summer, it was quite a hot night, however there was no fan in the room, so the window was opened (which happened to have no screen, meaning mosquitos could come and go as they pleased!). The cockroaches (the german kind) thought they'd helped us pay for accommodation and promptly began to share the beds with us.
Overall, we were pretty disappointed. Obviously for that money you don't expect much, but you expect basic things like soap in the bathroom and a pest free environment. Definitely won't be returning.

“Value for money and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2010

Great location, with free wireless network at the lounge and frendly staffs. I booked the suite and it is very basic, no air-conditioning ( not sure if they have hearter), the attached bath room without WC (you have to go to the common toilets), attached wash basin with mirror, a queen size bed and a small 14 inch TV which didn't seem to work. The bed is comfortable for a good night sleep and clean. It is worth the money, given the the great location, you don't need to spend much time in the hotel anyway.

“Horrible hostel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2010

My friends and I booked the triple room in this hostel to stay for 2 nights in Sydney. The place and the room was horrible. The inside looked like a run down hostel which has not been properly cleaned and maintained. The floors were filthy. Also, very narrow corridors. The receptionist which greeted us was reasonable.
Our room was quite bad with poor cleanliness generally. The pictures shown in their website does NOT represent what it actually looks like. The attached bathroom was basically a narrow cubicle with no door/curtain and no place to move once you stood inside it, with broken tiles. We couldn't get good sleep because the window could not be fully closed and the noise from the road was too noisy as well.
I would not recommend anyone to stay in this hostel.

“Worse than 2 star hotel in Bangkok. If you're running low on cash, I'd rather you stayed at the Airport.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 June 2010

I was sitting at my computer, and went onto Wotif to search for a decent lodging in the inner-city suburbs of Sydney. A double room here only costs $66 AUD a night, so let's say I blatantly made the choice based on price. The name and website suggests a comfortable backpackers hostel close to the city centre. However no where does it state that I would be faced with a commune of cockroaches with the bonus of disgust and third-word amenities in my room. Cleanliness is non-existent in this facility. You can smell personal lubricant on the linen, obviously unwashed since the last guest. Double rooms have a leaking shower, and to top it off there is no toilet in-room. The mattresses are spring loaded, designed to cause pain to even the most resilient sleepers. It is noisy when other backpackers walk upstairs, and you will not get a healthy rest. Of course it's an El Cheapo, but I'd rather sleep in the Airport or spend a few extra bucks on an excellent place like the Pensione Hotel which isn't so expensive either.
