“Had a wonderful stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2011

I was apprehensive of staying here after reading several reviews. I must say that I am here now and find them to be untrue.
Of course I did not have one of the rooms without windows. Mine was clean and on the top floor w/ balcony. One of the only ones. The room was clean and the service was quick and friendly.
I recommend having the breakfast buffet in the downstairs restaurant. $6.50 a day and that is a steal compared to other area restaurants.
beautiful area

“A surprise package”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 January 2011

We stayed one night with our two teenage children. The interconnecting rooms were spotlessly clean and even had two bathrooms for only $175.00! We just popped across the road for a late dinner at 10.30pm because our plane from the Gold Coast was late and there Are enough restaurants within walking distance that still serve meals till very late. The Savoy serve the cheapest breakfasts known in Double Bay, only $6.50 for a well stocked continental breakfast and only $11.50 for a full buffet, and cooked as you order so is deliciously fresh! While the rooms are not your modern look, it is the cleanliness and friendliness of this boutique hotel that is 5 star. The hotel is in the heart of Double Bay and only minutes from a lovely walk to the bay area and wharf. Parking at night is available free in the streets until 8.30am.

“Central to all of Double Bay's finest - spotlessly clean & comfortable”

My husband Ian and I are frequent travellers to Sydney and we always stay at The Savoy. Why? Katrina, Patrick, Tommy, Brita and Amy are like family to us and take very good care of us. The rooms are a bit run down and worn, but oh so clean. Double Bay is one of the most expensive suburbs in Sydney yet this hotel's rates remain low, even though two other hotels have since closed down (Ritz Carlton & The Sir Stamford). The rooms are on average only about $135 per night - year round! How can you argue with that? The beds are comfy as all hotel beds should be. If you want 5 star, then be sure to request the rooms on the 4th floor, both are the newest and most glamorous. They have large balconies and outdoor settings for two and views! The decor of these two rooms is lovely - black and white - my favourite!! The bathrooms are sparkling. The rooms are equipped with wide screen televisions, air-con, fridges, kettle/tea/coffee etc. This hotel is within easy walking distance to everything. When in Sydney, we wouldn't stay anywhere else. We are world travellers and have stayed in hotels with ratings from 2 stars to 7 stars. We could stay at more expensive lodgings, but we don't want to! Also, our favourite restaurant is close by (The 18 Footer's yacht club). We love Double Bay and we ADORE the Savoy. Don't take my word for it - go see for yourself!

“Great little hotel and very friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2010

I stayed at the Savoy for a course being held there. We had a great stay and it lived up to the friendliness and atmosphere of a smaller establishment. Room was basic and dated but the cleanliness and the comfortable beds were great which are the most imporant things to me. The airconditioning was good and nice to be able to get fresh air via opening windows (becoming a rarity in hotels these days).
The staff were friendly and helpful especially for the course and the room there was always clean.
The sitting area with the free coffee and tea was a bonus.
Being close to the harbour, shops and restaurants was wonderful and preferable to a multi storey impersonal hotel in the city.
Found the other reviews as I was recommending to a family member requiring value for money accommodation for an upcoming visit. Not sure why some of the other reviews were so negative. My standards are definitely very high but realistic too. It is well within its star rating and a little gem that I would come back to on another visit to Sydney.

“Not impressed”

We spent 3 nights at the Savoy Double Bay Hotel and were glad to leave. Our room had no exterior windows, and the windows that faced the hallway had broken blinds that didn't close all the way. The only way to insure privacy was to close the heavy curtains which made the room feel extremely claustrophobic. Also, the common areas of the hotel were dingy and not very clean and there were tacky Christmas decorations and blinking Christmas lights that shone into our room. They charged for access to wireless internet. We were on a limited budget, but still were pretty disappointed. I've stayed in nicer hostels.
