“Great option if you are on a budget but want to be well located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Double Bay is a delightful upmarket suburb of the city and this hotel is just two blocks from the ocean and the ferry dock that takes you to Circular Quay (just 9 minutes on the fast service). You are near an array of beaches with Bondi a short bus journey away. Other buses pass nearby that will take you in to the city centre or you can take the ferry to Circular Quay and on to all the other main points in the city.
The hotel is simple and a bit kitch in some aspects, but spotlessly clean and with exceptionally helpful and friendly staff. It is actually a bit of a lost opportunity, as it could be a really exceptional property, but then it would loose its charm and for sure be double the price. They are great coffee shops and restaurants nearby. Don't miss Indigo for breakfast, lunch or brunch. A place to sit and enjoy people watching.
This hotel is a fantastic option if you are on a limited budget, want to have easy and quick access to all the main points of the city, and to stay in a charming neighbourhood.

“Some things great, some things not-so-great”

First, the guy at the front desk was awesome!

So friendly and helpful, I couldn't speak highly enough of him. Secondly, the position was incredible. Right in the heart of gorgeous Double Bay, with cafes, shops, a walk to Edgecliff station and an even easier walk to the Ferry docks. Two options for getting into the city (downtown Sydney) in a matter of minutes.

The ferry is by far the more beautiful travel choice! The figs and surrounding houses and building are gorgeous and show off some of the best that Sydney has to offer.

The room was small-average sized hotel room, the bedding was clean. We had a child with us and used the fold out couch as abed as well as the queen bed. With the fold-out opened and made-up there was hardly any room to move about - beware! There was a small table and 2 chairs that were able to be used and a small bar fridge, which were nice convieniences.

Another great feature was that the fold-out was made up and out when we arrived, which was a great touch. Too often they know you will be using the fold out couch, and when you arrive you have to open it up yourself and deal with all the cushions - or worse, open it up and make it up yourself! The savoy is clearly good at customer service as this was all done in anticipation of our arrival - thank you Savoy.

The bathroom had some newer touches - the vanity and sink looked new, but the tile and shower did not. Some mould and mildew, throughout the shower and floors and a build up of dirt and dust in the corners of the bathroom, the bathroom door had cracks in it and was water-warped. One of the days we were there the floor drain had some kind of terrible smell coming from it. It dissipated by the next morning.

The bathroom was VERY small and the letdown of the room. Though the room was definitely on the older side, it all seemed very clean and well-looked after. Sadly, the bathroom let the whole room down. If they could renovate this to a cleaner, newer look, I would rave about this hotel.

All in all, the hotel provided for our needs, and at a reasonable price (about $130/night I think). We only used parking for one night ($15/night) as there was street parking that was able to be utilized as long as you were prepared to move your car around after your few hours were up.

They did have an economical breakfast option also, that we didn't take advantage of.

I would visit again if it were just for a night, but if staying a few nights like we did for 3 of us, it was a little small and the bathroom not clean enough. If they fixed the bathroom situation, I would stay here everytime I was in Sydney!

“Ideal for us.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

The Savoy ticked all our boxes for our breif stay in Sydney and the location/ price would be hard to beat hence my daughter and I are staying for a week next year. The decor is a little tired but the price is comensurate with that. The ferry is a short walk, and there are plenty of restaurants and shops literally at the door step. The room was clean and had everything we needed. I would rather stay in Double Bay than be amongst the hussle and bussle of central Sydney.

Room Tip: If you don't want street noise ask for a internal courtyard room.

“Great Location with a Water Glimpse”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

I stayed here for one night in an Executive Balcony room; the room was large and the balcony with the glimpse of Double Bay was great. I think the price (under $200) and location make it great value. Personally I prefer staying in the suburbs like Double Bay than Darling Harbor of Circular Quay. The restaurants and shopping are tops. Edgecliff station is close by and Bondi Junction is a 10 min taxi ride.

The room was a little small however it was clean and comfortable. Good value for accommodation within close proximity to the city. Staff were friendly.

Room Tip: Booking through the Savoy website will get you a slightly cheaper rate.
