“Great B&B”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2008

We loved Sydney and really enjoyed staying out of sydney itself. We were in a lovely area, close to good pubs and cafes. Enjoyed the area.
The host Liz was lovely and went out of her way to help with advice of places to visit. Breakfasts were good too and we looked forward to these. The house is lovely and decorated beautifully

“Fantastic experience at Tricketts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 May 2008

We chose to stay at Tricketts because we're they type of people who prefer to stay in Soho in rather than Times Square when in New York. Tricketts was like staying at a friends house rather than a snooty hotel.

The building is an amazing Victorian mansion building with a wonderfully eclectic interior and huge living room to escape the heat of the day. Our room was beautiful and spotless, with a very comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The breakfasts were great - with a great fresh fruit salad.

Liz, the owner, was very accommodating and full of useful information and tips on all things Sydney and much more. She has a couple of cats that live there too - Cleo and Bandit - who are great characters.

We used to walk down into the city via the fish markets. It only takes around 20mins. We did catch the light rail back on a couple of occasions. We liked being outside of the city and travelling in and out. Glebe is a really funky neighbourhood with some great places to eat, book shops, health food shops and close to the university. There's also a bus that tales you down to the beaches on your doorstep.

We're planning another trip to Sydney next year and will defiantly stay again.

“A relaxing place”

Went over New Year with 12 friends.Far,far better than a hotel. The ballroom is just like a club, deep leather chairs.Location is perfect. In a very quiet area of Sydney but ideal for the tram (10 min),bus (20min) or even walk (40 min)And there are plenty of cheap restaurants close by including the Toxteth pub

“Poor accommodation, nice people”

I'm not sure where the other positive reviewers for this B&B stayed, but Tricketts really was poor - it shouldn't be allowed to be called "luxury" and have 4.5 stars!!! The location was about 25 mins on the bus into Sydney city centre. We had the smallest and allegedly quietest room at the back of the house. It was thick with dust and smelled like someone had died in it. The top of the wardrobe was thick with dust and when opening it, it smelled so bad we decided not to unpack anything and live out of our bags. We had the unfortunate luck to stay for 5 nights as we couldn't find any other accommodation. The house itself could have been stunning but was full of so much clutter - papers, artefacts and knick knacks everywhere - but not in a good way just in a big mess! Also, there are about 5 cats living there which seem to have urinated and slept where they like making the house smell all the more. The owner, Liz Trickett, is rather snooty and unfriendly, whereas the only saving grace is her "housekeeper", Ian, who was super friendly and kind.
The house is on a flight path too, so every 10 mins or so we heard yet another plane go over. We never made it up for breakfast (much to Liz's annoyance). The area of Glebe is actually really cool - nice restaurants and small book shops. But overall I'm afraid the experience wasn't a good one.

  • Liked — Ian the housekeeper was lovely
  • Disliked — Filthy and misrepresented

“Forgotten Who is the Customer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 March 2007

March 2007 - The property was lovely but needed a good cleaning. Sidney was extremely hot and humid, but the air conditioning was not turned on during the night. Because of the heat and humidity and the noise from the street because the windows were open, we could not sleep. Even though Liz Tricketts was aware of the problem, she made no effort to make us more comfortable, but passed it off by saying that was the way we do things in Australia. If you sat in the ballroom the cats were walking on the sofa behind your head. One morning we had a tour leaving before her 9 AM breakfast schedule, and it seemed to be an imposition for us to get a bowl of dry cereal, although we were able to get one. In fairness, the two mornings we had breakfast at her scheduled times, the food was good and especially the fruit was exquisite.
For the price we paid, the customer service and hospitality was lacking. If ever we visit beautiful Sydney again, we must sadly admit that we would go elsewhere to a place where courtesy and customer service was more evident and better demonstrated.

Stayed March 2007
