“Good location. Nice hotel. Good value...???”
I would ideally rate Blue a 3 1/2, but that's not an option, so I went with 4 to be generous.
Stayed for a weekend (Friday/Saturday). Overall impression is that it was nice place to stay, but doesn't quite live up to its former glory. I mean there's nothing wrong with the hotel - It must have been hugely impressive when it first opened. But it is showing it's age & all feels a bit worn by now.
We stayed in a loft suite, which looked over the wharf & water & provided glimpses of the Harbour bridge & city. The room had a living area downstairs and the bedroom & en suite up. Nice enough room, but the bedroom was rather cramped.
The first night we stayed, the hotel's main bar (the Water Bar, which runs the entire middle of the hotel, and that all rooms overlook) had been booked for a private function. Which didn't phase us, as we were heading out that night, but the event went to midnight & was very noisy. Think hundreds of guests, DJ's, yelling/screaming - all quite easily heard from the room. Again, we were still having a night cap at midnight so we didn't care, but we overheard many guests complaining the following morning at breakfast. So keep that in mind if it might be of concern to you.
The location is great. Some nice restaurants in the area (China Doll comes highly recommended) & we had a fun afternoon at the Tilbury hotel around the corner.
So overall, I liked it, but I'm not sure if it was worth the $400 a night we payed.
