“Beautifully appointed and well-kept rooms”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Excellent attention to detail in their room appointments and housekeeping, and a wonderful use of space. The beds and pillows are ridiculously comfortable, so it was easy to get a really great night's sleep here. The bar is quite low key these days, and the hotel is in a fairly quiet part of town, so expect your nightlife to be at least a 15-20 minute walk away. It's right next to the Botanical Gardens and the Boy Charleton Pool so a great choice for people who like to be active when they travel. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Overall a great experience as a business hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms on the 4th floor seemed to be the most spacious.

“Sydney Blue is a great option!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We were trying to stay close enough to the 'heart' of Sydney, but not for the 'price' of hotels in the 'heart' of Sydney. The Blue was absolutely a perfect choice. We could walk to all main attractions (Opera House, Bridge, etc.), and were situated across from a lovely park. The staff at the hotel could not have been better. They are there to greet you outside, suggest different attractions, restaurants, etc. The hotel itself is a converted factory and has an amazing amount of charm and history. Since it is not in the immediate downtown area, it is very quiet at night and you are removed from the hustle and bustle of city streets, noise, and traffic.

“Overall a lovely hotel with awesome pillows”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

My partner and I were dining at China Doll for our anniversary and decided to throw a hotel stay in the mix. We live in Sydney and thought it would be nice to "get away" for the night and we managed to get a last minute rate. Very welcoming staff. We stayed in the Deluxe Pier King room. The room was clean and tidy as was the bathroom. It had one of the biggest bathtubs I've ever seen in a hotel. The bed and super comfy pillows made for a very good nights sleep. The pool was nice although it was a little confusing getting there with certain lifts not going to our level so we had to walk through the public area of the hotel to get to the pool.
We had a cocktail at the hotel bar and the barman made one of the best mojitos we've tasted. Being able to dine on the wharf and then simply walk upstairs to our room was a treat. 11am checkout allowed a great sleep in and we didn't feel rushed.
Many hotels these days have complimentary Internet, the Blue does not.
A good choice if you want to stay in the Woolloomoolloo area, away from the city centre.

“Good hotel, a bit away from the buzz”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2012

We stayed at the Blu Sydney for three night in January.
The hotel design is Impressive, and the staff was friendly. The room was very small (we booked into a deluxe room) and the shower room very tiny.
The location is good, but not for those looking for buzz and nightlife, as it is a bit remote from the centre. There is a nice walk across the botanic garden that leads to the Opera House.
Good pubs in front of the hotel and a wide selection of restaurants. However, as said before, the location is not in the city centre.

Room Tip: Chose an high end room, fora better stay. However it does not come cheap!

“Good location. Nice hotel. Good value...???”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

I would ideally rate Blue a 3 1/2, but that's not an option, so I went with 4 to be generous.

Stayed for a weekend (Friday/Saturday). Overall impression is that it was nice place to stay, but doesn't quite live up to its former glory. I mean there's nothing wrong with the hotel - It must have been hugely impressive when it first opened. But it is showing it's age & all feels a bit worn by now.

We stayed in a loft suite, which looked over the wharf & water & provided glimpses of the Harbour bridge & city. The room had a living area downstairs and the bedroom & en suite up. Nice enough room, but the bedroom was rather cramped.

The first night we stayed, the hotel's main bar (the Water Bar, which runs the entire middle of the hotel, and that all rooms overlook) had been booked for a private function. Which didn't phase us, as we were heading out that night, but the event went to midnight & was very noisy. Think hundreds of guests, DJ's, yelling/screaming - all quite easily heard from the room. Again, we were still having a night cap at midnight so we didn't care, but we overheard many guests complaining the following morning at breakfast. So keep that in mind if it might be of concern to you.

The location is great. Some nice restaurants in the area (China Doll comes highly recommended) & we had a fun afternoon at the Tilbury hotel around the corner.

So overall, I liked it, but I'm not sure if it was worth the $400 a night we payed.
