“Cheap, central”

Basic hotel accommodation in Sydney. Opposite the Capitol Theatre and a short walk to China Town, Paddy's Markets. The light rail that goes past Darling Harbor, the casino and the fish markets is just about on the doorstep.

Staff are courteous and professional. Room was a triple single. Clean and basic. Bathroom was a little cramped with a broken door that looked like someone had tried to break the door lock, there was also some mould in the top corner above the door. Beds are wearing out slightly as I could feel just about every spring and it was an uncomfortable sleep. Despite central and busy location, room was very quiet and peaceful.

Would I stay again? Yes, I would recommend if you wanted a basic and central hotel. Cheapest to book online on their website.

“Good location”

Recently stayed 3 nights here. Very central location, walkable to Opera House (40mins) Bridge/Circular Quay (30mins), Darling Harbour (20mins). Loads of nearby restaurants so pretty handy. The rooms were comfortable but were slightly tired looking. Initially staff didn't appear too helpful but later on they seemed to improve- able to store luggage etc ok. Our room didn't have any bath plugs but one was provided on request. All in all a reasonable room for the price and in a great location.

“Great value and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

My daughter and I travelled to Sydney for a short holiday to see the Harry Potter Exhibition. Looking to stay within a reasonable walking distance of the main attractions of Sydney, as well as staying within a reasonable budget, the Metro Hotel Sydney Central came up trumps. Some of the reviews I read casted some doubt, however I was not disappointed. The room was on the 8th floor, twin share, with an ok view, but most importantly was neat, clean, and set out with modern decor. Good TV with free Foxtel/paid movies, small fridge, tea/coffee facilities. I thought the charges for wireless Internet were a bit steep, but I did not need this anyway. The bathroom was ok, but is in need of an upgrade. Staff were courteous friendly. We did not eat in the hotel at all, so can't comment on this service. The room was made up as expected; even providing clean towels when we left them hanging. All-in-all I have no problems recommending this hotel. I booked online with a 3rd party website, and would recommend doing the same, or try using a promotional code on the Metro's own website to get the best price.

Room Tip: Our room was on the East side, facing Pitt St, and we did not have any problems with noise at night.

“Good Central Hotel in Chinatown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

This hotel is located in a very good location, right in Chinatown - extremely near to food shops, supermarkets, Chinatown shops - no issues finding nearby amenities. Good location for tourists as it is walking distance to some tourists attractions (e.g. Paddy's markets, Darling Harbour, City Centre), and is near to bus stops to further areas (e.g. Opera House, The Rocks, Harbour Bridge).
Hotel rooms I stayed in was a standard room (either 1 double bed or 2 single beds). Has TV (with limited cable), kettle, cups and glasses, coffee and tea, table with mirror, bathroom, and basic facilities. Comfortable room. Though, I felt that the room lighting is a bit too dim at times (with no overhead lights, only table lamps). Bathroom feels small and I had to bend down to reach the taps (not ideal for people with bad backs). Otherwise, room was clean and tidy. Good value.
I also paid for the morning breakfast, which was decent but wasn't great (it was buffet style with limited variety of food - got sick of eating the same food after a few days).
For business trips, etc. - Internet is not free, you have to pay a certain fee for it.

Pros - good value; extremely good central location; clean, basic rooms; basic room facilities present; helpful staff
Cons - small bathroom; need to pay for Internet access; very limited choice for breakfast

“Great Location,Professional Service”

We lived at the Metroi Hotel Sydney Central in December 2010 on the first leg of our holiday in Australia. Fantastic location within easy walking distance - (50-100 metres) of shops, restaurants, pubs, public transport and you can hail a cab literally from the doorstep! We were picked up by our tour operator from the doorstep - so it is very centrally located ! The staff are friendly and professional. The property is a bit dated and the rooms are a little small, but well maintained. The hotel provides comfortable beds and a good hot shower. Though it is not cheap (like most hotels in australia !) all in all The Metro Hotel Sydney Central is a solid hotel for either the business or the leisure traveller.

Room Tip: If you are booking from overseas through a web site, speak with the hotel to make sure that the hot...
