“Dishonest and disappointing”

We have stayed at this property 6 times over the last 4 years. Citgate has slowly gone downhill the busier it has become. We have never questioned a bill or had reason to until our last stay. When we arrived we were told the room rate which we had booked was 20% higher than quoted. We paid and got on with enjoying our trip. We contacted the hotel after the stay to complain about the difference between the quoted and charged price, to be told we were wrong not the hotel. We work in hospitality and travel a lot, vote with our feet and our feet say "the Citigate is dishonest and disappointing"

“Close to train station, great staff.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Stayed here with my partner to attend a friends birthday celebration. We caught the train from Newcastle and the hotel is very close to central train station so we walked. Check in was smooth and quick. I had booked over the phone through the Mirvac reservation line and the lady who served me was very patient and gave prices for several hotels in the city.

The room was quite a decent size. We had a king bed as well as a sofa and a lounge chair. It was nice to have a sofa to sit on to watch tv instead of just having a bed to sit on.

We had dinner at Darling Harbor and it was only a $10 taxi fare. Coming home from Kings Cross that night was $15. Very affordable to get home.

“Decent hotel close to trains and markets”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I stayed at the hotel for a week on business. It's in a good location to the south of the CBD, close to Central Station, Paddy's Markets and Chinatown, so there's plenty of restaurants and shops around the area. It's a bit of a walk to Darking Harbour, and further still to Pitt St Mall and Circular Quay. Sydney is expensive, but the hotel seemed relatively good value for money.

The room looked rather tired - especially the bathroom. I'm sure everything here pre-dated the Sydney Olympics. My colleagues complained of noisy neighbours to their rooms, but I lucked out and had a quiet stay. The room was not afforded a great view - I was looking straight into an office building. There was an LCD TV but the stations were analogue and distorted. I tried room service on two occasions - it was tasty, but slow and expensive.

Given my work commitments I wasn't too fussed with the hotel, but if I were coming back to Sydney as a tourist I'd look elsewhere

“Great location! 4* Mystery deal booked via Wotif.com”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

My mother and I booked this hotel as a Wotif mystery deal for $140/pn for a twin room for our short trip to Sydney.

Upon check-in/check-out the staff were very friendly, helpful and professional, which made for a nice stay.

Our room on the 9th floor was well appointed, spacious and maintained to a good standard - beds were large and comfortable enough, tea and coffee making facilities well stocked during our stay and rooms aptly cleaned everyday. We had to close our curtains a few time as we were directly opposite and within close proximity to a large office building – though we were out most of the day, so this didn’t affect us a great deal.

The pool & attached spa were a treat and open till an appropriate time in the evening (10pm) which meant we could go for a relaxing dip after returning from a huge day of sightseeing (not too many children about either which was peaceful :) ) We did notice the construction work across the road but never really heard any disruptive noises etc.

We opted to leave out breakfast at the hotel, so can’t comment on this (though skip the charge and head down the road to the beautiful Chinese garden for some lovely scones and tea!). Same goes for internet – not sure what the rates are, there are e a few computers available for use in the lobby though which may be handy for some.

Overall we had a pleasant stay and would consider returning in the future if booked at the same price.
