“Great location for the price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

I booked the Holiday Inn Darling Harbour after trying to find a reasonable hotel in Sydney in a good location for elderly parents before we took a cruise. The hotel is an older Holiday Inn and doesn't have the spaciousness and new features of some of the newer hotels, but the location is great.

My parents (80'-90's) enjoyed the area and walked down George St to the Opera House and to the Rocks and Botanic Gardens! You can get the train back from Circular Quay. While we took a taxi to the hotel from the train station is a close walk and I went back to the airport to fly to Adelaide for a day. I took a taxi to the airport but tried the train back and was faster and much cheaper. The Market Place is a block away and a huge warehouse of multiple stands for Australia souvenirs and other things at the best prices we saw in Sydney. Chinatown was great for low cost lunches. All in all a great location.

“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel is in a really convenient location - on the fringe of ChinaTown and close to the CBD. The one drawback is car access which is not well thought out and in fact is a bottleneck with guests arriving and wanting to off load luggage and others leaving. That combined with shuttles offloading large numbers can be chaotic. I had to drive round and round waiting to get a place. Valet parking is offered but that is only after the rather messy arrival arrangement. The Reception staff once I actually got in the hotel were great - friendly, courteous and helpful.

The room I stayed in had been recently renovated and while basic was clean and a reasonable size. The bathroom had not had an equivalent make over it seemed to me and was old fashioned but clean. It would have been a lot better if the bath had been removed and a shower cabinet installed. Admittedly I have an aversion to showers over the bath and doubtful shower curtains. Good toiletries.

The restaurant has an excellent buffet breakfast but it gets very busy. Dinner in the evening was much quieter and the food was well presented and the service willing and friendly.

Altogether a really pleasant Friday - Sunday stay.

“Great Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Stayed there for 2 nights on our way to the Far North. The location was great! A short walk to the Harbour where there were plenty of things to do. There is a great aquarium that our son just loved. A short walk from the hotel is a monorail station that, after a short ride you are in downtown Sydney. Also in the area are stops to get on double-decker tour buses, which is a great way to see the city. Reasonably priced for Sydney and a place we will definitely stay again.
