“Friendly and spacious in CBD location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Centrally located in the Canberra CBD, this is a great choice for the visitor or business traveller, and each apartment includes a small kitchenette and laundry area.

When we arrived, the front desk staff were helpful and available, and checking in and out was efficient. Our bedsitter apartment was large, clean and comfortable - although not totally up to date, with an older style TV, no safe for valuables, and shower over the bath. But overall, good value for money, especially for couples, groups or families.

“great location & value in Canberra”

This wasnt the first time I stayed at Waldorf Canberra, I used to stay at another hotel but soon realised that their service & value for money had dropped, since I discovered Waldorf apartment hotel did not looked back.. I go to the ACT often for business trips and find the apartments roomy, clean & the best part is that I can wash my clothes every day! Very good on site facilities such as pool, gym, coffee shop and very good security. My studio hotel apartment is always clean with all the equipment one requires

“What is that smell?!!!”

I don't give bad reviews- but there's always a first time - and this is mine. And I'm still here....

For a start the place reeks! The lift smells like someone spilled a tuna tin, the corridor smells of musty food stuffs, and the room smells like an old smoker mixed with sweat and bleach. The bath tub and toilet are clean, but the curtains are dirty and coming off the hooks, the sofa is various shades of stain, and the bed is hard and as for the bedspread-- is that dirt or are my eyes now playing tricks on me. is it just me being used to shiny and clean bed linen at what we thought was 4 star accommodation.

The service is casual but not bad so far - though I did wonder if it was the youth hostel for a second.

There will be a new rule at work from now on. Check trip advisor first.

“Happy to come back anytime”

I made an online booking at Waldorf for a one-bedroom apartment with an office, which could be used as a second bedroom. My sister-in-law was visiting us from overseas and Canberra was part of the Australian tour we planned for her. This apartment looked as a good option for us: my wife and I would take the bedroom and her sister the office. The price was very good and it included breakfast.

When I checked TripAdvisor later on, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. After reading all the bad comments about it, I felt very apprehensive as we checked in. However I was pleasantly surprised once we got into our room.
Although not large, the apartment was quite comfortable for us. The furniture was simple but modern and in good condition. The bathroom was well appointed and everything in very good condition. I couldn't fault anything re cleanliness. I could only mention a suction system in the bathroom that never stopped, which produced a faint noise that was a bit annoying. The bedroom also had internet access (which we did not use) and naturally a TV.
In-between the two rooms there was a kitchen and a lounge area with a second TV.

With regards to the rest:
Breakfast: Continental breakfast was included in the room price and served in an adjoining restaurant close to reception. Included variety of cereals, breads and pastries apart from brewed coffee and teas.
Reception: Probably a bit too simple for the 4.5 stars claimed by the hotel, and the staff, although polite and helpful with us, could do better with a smile more often.
Parking: The underground garage was a bit small and adjoining some untidy storage areas. It was anyway very good for us and with convenient direct access to the apartment via lifts.
Location: Very good. Close (by car) to the Parliament and War Memorial. Half a block away to a pedestrian area where you could find a shopping centre (food court), a couple of restaurants near it, and the restaurant and bar from the casino (at one end of the street).

All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Waldorf.

“Good CBD convenience”

I actually haven't stayed there but I do book a lot of clients into The Waldorf. It is one of two hotels closest to the National Convention Centre and the casino. My clients often want to stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel but when the Crowne is full and I have to book them in to the Waldorf, I get no complaints. Second time around they don't mind which hotel I get them into. Tip: if you like swimming then bring your swimmers because the indoor pool is warm and rarely used.
