I made an online booking at Waldorf for a one-bedroom apartment with an office, which could be used as a second bedroom. My sister-in-law was visiting us from overseas and Canberra was part of the Australian tour we planned for her. This apartment looked as a good option for us: my wife and I would take the bedroom and her sister the office. The price was very good and it included breakfast.
When I checked TripAdvisor later on, I thought I'd made a terrible mistake. After reading all the bad comments about it, I felt very apprehensive as we checked in. However I was pleasantly surprised once we got into our room.
Although not large, the apartment was quite comfortable for us. The furniture was simple but modern and in good condition. The bathroom was well appointed and everything in very good condition. I couldn't fault anything re cleanliness. I could only mention a suction system in the bathroom that never stopped, which produced a faint noise that was a bit annoying. The bedroom also had internet access (which we did not use) and naturally a TV.
In-between the two rooms there was a kitchen and a lounge area with a second TV.
With regards to the rest:
Breakfast: Continental breakfast was included in the room price and served in an adjoining restaurant close to reception. Included variety of cereals, breads and pastries apart from brewed coffee and teas.
Reception: Probably a bit too simple for the 4.5 stars claimed by the hotel, and the staff, although polite and helpful with us, could do better with a smile more often.
Parking: The underground garage was a bit small and adjoining some untidy storage areas. It was anyway very good for us and with convenient direct access to the apartment via lifts.
Location: Very good. Close (by car) to the Parliament and War Memorial. Half a block away to a pedestrian area where you could find a shopping centre (food court), a couple of restaurants near it, and the restaurant and bar from the casino (at one end of the street).
All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Waldorf.
