“Great room, skip the food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Stayed in the spa suite room with my husband. Room was luxurious and immediately felt like home-away-from-home. The staff were very professional and courteous. The hotel's standard guide book had a detailed guide to different tourist attractions in Canberra, which was great as we didn't have a very clear idea of what to do or where to go. The hotel is a good 2km from the city centre - we chose to just walk there and back, as it's a pleasant walk.

The restaurant, room service and breakfast were a bit overpriced for what they delivered. Also, we pre-booked the complimentary shuttle bus service to get to the bus terminal in time for our connecting bus back to Sydney - the shuttle bus was late, and we only made our connection because we got out of the bus and ran two blocks to the terminal.

Room Tip: Spa suite is well worth the money.

“OK but a little tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We booked during Floriade so everywhere else was very expensive and busy. This hotel was OK - just OK. it's a very average 4* property. No WiFi. The staff are helpful, but the cafe / bar is overpriced. The rooms are average and most look out onto the carpark or Northbourne Avenue.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Northbourne Avenue are noisy.

“Ok but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012 via mobile

For an average hotel it is what it says on the packet. Wifi is expensive and not great. Weak signal, hung and constantly logged off..
Chef is not good unless you like your food incinerated. Good choice on the menu but beware and specify how you want it. The staff were friendly though and the room was very clean and well serviced. I found it quiet and the AC worked ok for me. Nice to have a window that opened.
It was OK.

“Tired, outdated, a step back into the 80s”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

Tired, outdated, a step back into the 80s. The aircon in the room is noisy, the bathroom is tiny, the breakfast absolutely inedible and the staff couldn't care less. We had the cheapest muesli they could find, muffins 100% chemical and the eggs clearly made from powdered eggs. We asked for "a la carte" breakfast and they didn't know what that was (it's written on their menu). Complained, didn't get an excuse and still charged us 2% for payment by credit card. Cheapskates on top of that.

We also tried to get back the shampoo that my wife forgot there last week. We made sure to call 10 mins after we left the hotel, no one asked our name. The shampoo wasn't there on arrival, the staff looked at us as if we were descending from Mars. We're about to checkout, it's 9.45am, and still no sign of the shampoo that is apparently somewhere in the hotel.

The tropical garden is nice and it sure is enjoyable to have a glass of wine here. But that's about it.

Service is about personal touches, this hotel obviously hasn't figured this out.
