“Not cheap enough”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Rooms are pretty good. Bathroom is ok but is dominated by a grubby hot tub with a shower above it mounted way too low on the wall. Not many service staff but they seemed pretty good. However, the hotel has a strange layout, with an A Block connected to the Tradies club and a separate B Block. Literature refers to these blocks in telling you where amenities are but there are no signs or notations on maps identifying the blocks. Moreover, room number run seamlessly into B Block, so finding your room the first time can be a nightmare. Wifi only reaches half of A Block (and it turned out to be way too expensive to bother with). Housekeeping starts very early - before 9am - clogging halls and lifts with equipment, making noise and requiring you to put out the Do Not Disturb sign the night before if you're not leaving early. Food is provided by the club and is generally average quality but overpriced. At $158 a night there are many other options in Canberra.

Room Tip: A Block is better for convenience but has poor wifi.

“Clean, safe and good location”

I try to stay here every time I visit Canberra. The rooms are starting to look a little worn, but the beds and pillows are great! They are latex. The location is great if you don't have a car and need to eat. Dickson has many Restaurants and they are just outside your door.
I would recommend you try to stay within the main building. They tried to give a room on one of the wings last stay and the boom gate wouldn't work so you couldn't park near your room (they also have undercover parking) and finally when we found the room you had to walk upstairs - no lift.... so if you have a bad back, or just don't want to be lugging suitcases, make sure you tell them when you book.

“Best overall value in Canberra”

Got a great last minute deal online.
Upgraded to a spa room.
Very clean, much bigger room than at comparable priced properties.
Nice quiet balcony.
The adjoining Club Tradies is great value for dining (better be hungry if you order the Legendary Schnitzel!)
Check in was fast, pleasant & informative.
Would not hesitate at all to stay here again.

“Great stay”

It's the second time I've stayed at this hotel and in the meantime the Tradies has been revamped and the extension has been built. I stayed in the separate extension and I thought it was modern, comfortable and quiet. Service was great. With the supermarket right next door and the different restaurants close by this is a great location.

“Clean, tidy, spacious & close to the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

I had stayed at this hotel before and had not been happy with the rooms, however, I think that they may have refurbished since the last time I was there and my room was lovely. Clean, tidy, spacious with good facilities. I had a nice view out my window of the Telstra Tower and there was a microwave, kettle and some crockery, which is more than you usually get in a hotel room. The bed was comfy and the hotel is right next to a fully equipped qym which you are entitled to use as a hotel guest. Great for business travel, just off Northbourne avenue in Dickson where there are heaps of restaurants and a supermarket. Maybe a 5 minute drive into the city or a longer walk if you wanted to. Very good price for a hotel room in Canberra.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on level 3, they seem to have been refurbished and it is much quieter than the level...
