Our group was staying in cabanas behind the swimming pool. Bathroom was clean and spacy, hot water all the time, rooms were decent, but with pretty bad lighting. Better have your mosquito-net with you, the roof and windows do not look exactly 'insectproof'. Cabana had a nice small terrace towards the swimming pool, with comfy chairs. The surroundings are very nice - jungle coming close to cabanas and swimming pool, beautiful flowers, howler monkeys heard in the morning, but in the night it might get a bit scary when you're coming back to your room and listening to the jungle noises;-) Swimming pool was nice too, maybe not crystal clear, but we were very happy to be able to get some refreshment on the hot afternoon.
Maya bell is very close to the ruins (several minutes on foot to the museum, collectivos stopping at you every several minutes), so it's very convenient if you're there for short time only to see the archeological zone.
The place was pretty empty when we were there (third week of October, low season), very few people, so if we wanted to change for some more lively surroundings and get to the town, it would be a bit problematic in the night.
Food was very very average. We did not have any single meal that I could call a nice experience. It was not poisoning, it was ok to feed your stomach to survive, but it was just tasteless.
The staff were not very much interested in their guests. They were not unfriendly, but they obviously did not care too much about you. If you don't know Spanish, you are not able to communicate there, seems no one spoke English at the time we were there.
I would summarize the place as nice enough to stay (due to convenient location close to ruins), but a bit too expensive comparing to value provided.
When getting to Maya bell from Palenque town, you need to factor for additional charge at the entrance to the National Park. We were getting there around 4pm, and still had to pay the full fee (I think they are stopping charging when it gets dark, but not sure about exact timing).
