“delightful hideaway in the jungle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 September 2010

My wife and I were looking for a comfortable, reasonably priced hotel for a week's stay near the Palenque Mayan ruins. We checked out a number of places in town and on the road to the ruins. La Aldea definitely gave us the best value and turned out to be a charming, beautiful, and relaxing choice. Our bungalow was quiet, spacious and comfortable -- with newly installed beds and a lovely hammock on the porch. Although it was too cool to swim when we were there, the large new pool appeared to be very inviting. The restaurant served regional dishes that were quite well done. The entire grounds are absolutely gorgeous, landscaped with native tropical trees and other plants. The entire staff was very helpful and accommodating. Plus, we got a discount for paying in pesos rather than credit card!

“Look a monkey on the shower window”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2010

My wife and son stayed at this place for 5 nights and did not want to leave. There's an abundance of vegetation throughout the hotel. We fell in love with this place and will visit again next year.

“Refreshing!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

We stopped in Palenque after visiting San Cristobal.
What a refreshment to stay in this hotel in the middle of the jungle vegetation! The rooms are very big, the showers confortable and the hammock outside the room is very inviting!

The nights is nicely noisy, but best is at morning lights :) Enjoy nature :)

Please note that they are still making some arrangements around the swimmingpool, but nothing that can bother a stay there, at only 5minutes from beautiful Palenque ruins.

“jungle solitude”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2008

Stayed here five nights, three nights in luxury room, two nights in rustic. My advice is to skip the rustic, was too rustic for my ideals. Bathrooms are outside, even though I requested indoor bathroom on the form. Bring your own toilet paper, too, that was never refilled. Outdoor sinks, no mirror in the room, and cinder-block beds with an old played-out mattress to sleep on. Beds in the luxury rooms are equally hard. Hot water in the shower lasts for approx. 45 seconds tops, then back to cold again. No door on bathroom at all for privacy, didn't bother me because I was alone, but strange. There was a dropped-down portion of my room, which was three inches lower than the rest of the floor with a drain there, I fell over it many times, don't know what the purpose is of that. The pool is a small, round soaking pool, not for diving or swimming any distance. The location is great, there is nice landscaping, flocks of turkeys and chickens pass at will along the sidewalks. It was pretty once you got there, but if you don't relish camping, stay out of the rustic cabins.

  • Liked — love the jungle
  • Disliked — outdoor bathrooms
