“Great Place To Base Yourself In Palenque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 March 2011

Based on the earlier reviews, I was a little leery of this hotel, but liked it's location. Palenque is a grubby town, but La Canada is certainly the nicest and quietest area to stay near the town. The hotel was clean, quiet by the town's standards and had a decent restaurant. It is a five minute walk to pick up the colectivo to the ruins and few minutes more to a little store for your necessaries. The staff was helpful, but spoke little English. Based on the price, I think this hotel is one of the best choices in Palenque.

“Adequate...clean rooms but LOUD”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2010

There are only a couple of nice things about this place. There's a sign to pay to use their computers for internet but they don't say anything if you're staying there - you can use them. If you aren't staying there you could probably just buy a beer to use them. The rooms are clean (however, small and the bed was hard). There are screened windows that you cannot close so even with the fan/AC on you can hear everything. This includes the barking dogs! I wouldn't try the restaurant...we never saw anyone eating there in our three days in Palenque. For the price this is an ok place in La Canada. The location of La Canada is great (not downtown but close enough to walk) so staying in this area is a good choice.

“Don't get fool by booking this hotel online!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2009

I just check-in to this hotel and can't help but feel a little bit cheated so I have to share my opinion on this hotel.

Short version - The sign on the hotel say 650 pesos but they insisted on charging me 760 pesos because I booked through the internet. Many better hotels available in the areas, don't get fool because this one has the website.

First I booked this hotel through the internet because the tripadvisor review was pretty ok and at that time this was the only reasonable price hotel available to book online. I visited during new year holiday, so I'm just afraid that there won't be any hotel available if I'm not book ahead of time... WRONG!!

There are so so many hotels in this area but they don't listed here in tripadvisor (I guess they don't have the website). They are definitely look better, cleaner, and most importantly they will have room available for you! (I walked around a little bit just to check it out.) Once I got to this hotel xibalba, I saw the sign at the frontdesk said 650 pesos but they insisted that they have to charged me 760 pesos because I booked online. (I booked at $58.50 dollars online.) I argued but they said I have to pay and they have my credit card so I have to stay here. The staffs are not helpful at all just chuckle and do nothing. In the end, I end up pay $58.50 in dollars, since I figured it better than paying 760 pesos.

The hotel looked just like old house converted to motel. The room is smelly and look like super cheap apartment (one plastic chair in my room for you). I also found hairs on my bed.

My conclusion is don't book online in Palenque town, there will be many hotels for you in the area no matters when you planned to visit and the price will be cheaper for walk-in (at least for now). Nice hotels here just doesn't have the website.

PS. One more thing, they not reply my email at all after I'm booked online...

“Adequate, but no smiles”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2009

An adequate no-frills hotel with some personnel issues to resolve. The rooms are clean and spacious and the beds, very comfortable. We booked a tour to Palenque with one of the desk staff, who booked us into the wrong tour and then failed to reimburse us until requested to do so by the manager. The front desk staff were not the type we felt comfortable in trusting and, unlike most non-English speaking staff in Mexican hotels, made no effort to try and understand simple requests.
Breakfasts were basic but poorly presented but the kitchen and waiting staff were pleasant and welcoming.

“Great place to base yourself in Palenque”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2009

My boyfriend and I stayed here three nights while in Palenque and I have to say it was a great hotel. The room was clean, spacious and had a safe, and the maids came every day to clean and change the towels. There are mosquito nets on all the windows and there is air-con too, which is a welcome relief in Palenque trust me! We called the day before to see if they had space and they gave us the price as 400 pesos, a bargain for the hotel itself - if you just show up I think the price for our room would have been 650...

The hotel is on a lovely quiet street with two restaurants next door as well as a coffee shop with great muffins (they also have a restaurant in the hotel). There is a 7/11 about 5 minutes walk on the main road. You can walk to the bus station in 10 minutes and it's about 5 minutes walk to the collectivo which takes you to the ruins (and that is only about 10-15 min ride for 10 pesos per person). At the end of the street there is a travel agency and we booked a day trip to Agua Azul and Misol-Ha with them.

Overall a great hotel in a great location - I would stay here again if I was ever in Palenque again.
