“Nice location, holiday atmosphere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Outside the city of Palenque, modern – colorful & clean rooms, (very) large bed, AC, LCD TV, free Wi-Fi, massage facilities, 2 swimming pools, beautiful surrounding garden – very well maintained. Many tourist groups, families with children, live music until 22.00. The room walls provide VERY LOW noise insulation, anyway the outside noise level comes down after 22.30 when they close the swimming pools. The buffet breakfast is of quite a good variety and quality. Beside the noise level, this is a nice hotel if you stay for one-two days. We used “Mision Palenque” as a base to visit the Palenque, Bonampak and Yaxchilan archeological sites (all of them a “must see”!).

“Good choice for the remote area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Mision Palenque for 2 nights beginning November 21, 2011. We were part of a tour group and had travelled a fair distance to get to Palenque the first day. We didn't arrive until it was dark about 700pm. As we were driving through this tiny village, I was a bit worried about the hotel we would be staying. I was very relieved when we drove into the parking lot of the Mision Palenque. It certainly wasn't a 5-star hotel but considering we were in a more remote part of Mexico, I don't think you can expect that kind of experience. We enjoyed the meals in the main dining area (all served buffet style). There were not many tour groups at this time of year but the staff were friendly and attentive even though there weren't many guests staying at the hotel. The rooms are either up or down about 10 steps. Basic rooms but comfortable enough. The hotel has a pool and is set in tropical gardens. You can easily walk into town. One odd thing was that we had to pick up the TV remote at the front desk and bring it back on checkout.
We also really enjoyed our day trip to the Palenque Mayan ruins - very beautiful place.

“About What We Expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My husband and I had stayed at a Mision hotel in another part of Mexico so we knew what to expect, and this place neither surprised nor disappointed. The hotel is set way off the road along a lush drive, giving it a private feel. The front desk service was a little hit or miss but the bellboy was very friendly and helpful. The room (we stayed in #209 facing the pool) was basic but clean and functional. The shower had great pressure and the hot water came on right away. The bathroom had shelving and lots of space for toiletries. The bed was very firm, even by Mexico standards, due to the fact that it's just a mattress on top of a wooden platform.

The first night we had people in the rooms on both sides of us, and it sounded as if they were in the room with us. We could hear every word they said, and they were up late. The noise combined with the hard bed made it not a great night's sleep. The second night was better since our neighbors had left.

The restaurant was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. The breakfast especially was nice with fruit, eggs, tamales, beans, enchiladas, etc. We were not hungry again until dinner.

Luckily we did not see any tour groups there while we were there. It seemed to be mostly families.

I spent awhile reading reviews on hotels in Palenque trying to find the right one at the right price. None of them seemed all that great. The hotel Mision Palenque was not wonderful, but for the price we paid (762 pesos per night) I can't complain. They could have really ripped us off on the food prices too but they didn't. It was a perfectly average hotel experience.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room away from the pool and away from other occupied rooms.

“Good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

This is a nice place, contemporary in style but ambient because of its location away from everything. The pool was nice, the spa interesting, the jungle feel was great, and the price decent. The staff booked a great trip in the jungle for me and were helpful at the front desk but had an attitude at the restaurant. The hotel is a half hour walk away from the center of town, but you can also catch a taxi.

“Mision Palenque”

From the outside this hotel looks nice. Inside the rooms are not so nice. First off the hotel needs an upgrade as it was built over 35 years ago and is falling apart. My room Had blood on the sheets and the shower are needed to be retiled and painted as it was not clean. I don't recommend this hotel unless you are needy of a place to stay. It is very close to Palenque however. They serve buffet in the dining room for the assorted tour groups that stay there.
