“About What We Expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

My husband and I had stayed at a Mision hotel in another part of Mexico so we knew what to expect, and this place neither surprised nor disappointed. The hotel is set way off the road along a lush drive, giving it a private feel. The front desk service was a little hit or miss but the bellboy was very friendly and helpful. The room (we stayed in #209 facing the pool) was basic but clean and functional. The shower had great pressure and the hot water came on right away. The bathroom had shelving and lots of space for toiletries. The bed was very firm, even by Mexico standards, due to the fact that it's just a mattress on top of a wooden platform.

The first night we had people in the rooms on both sides of us, and it sounded as if they were in the room with us. We could hear every word they said, and they were up late. The noise combined with the hard bed made it not a great night's sleep. The second night was better since our neighbors had left.

The restaurant was surprisingly good and reasonably priced. The breakfast especially was nice with fruit, eggs, tamales, beans, enchiladas, etc. We were not hungry again until dinner.

Luckily we did not see any tour groups there while we were there. It seemed to be mostly families.

I spent awhile reading reviews on hotels in Palenque trying to find the right one at the right price. None of them seemed all that great. The hotel Mision Palenque was not wonderful, but for the price we paid (762 pesos per night) I can't complain. They could have really ripped us off on the food prices too but they didn't. It was a perfectly average hotel experience.

Room Tip: Request a quiet room away from the pool and away from other occupied rooms.

“Good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

This is a nice place, contemporary in style but ambient because of its location away from everything. The pool was nice, the spa interesting, the jungle feel was great, and the price decent. The staff booked a great trip in the jungle for me and were helpful at the front desk but had an attitude at the restaurant. The hotel is a half hour walk away from the center of town, but you can also catch a taxi.

From the outside this hotel looks nice. Inside the rooms are not so nice. First off the hotel needs an upgrade as it was built over 35 years ago and is falling apart. My room Had blood on the sheets and the shower are needed to be retiled and painted as it was not clean. I don't recommend this hotel unless you are needy of a place to stay. It is very close to Palenque however. They serve buffet in the dining room for the assorted tour groups that stay there.

“Not a five star, but very nice for the location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

Came back after 3 years and the place still is the same. The hotel is nicely situated not too far away from the Zocalo and it is surrounded by beautiful lush gardens. I think the 5 stars that they have are highly exagerated though.- the room interior is more like a european 2 or 3 star standard, but that’s OK. Palenque is in the middle of nowhere and while it’s no luxury hotel, the place is really nice. The pool area is nice and quiet (especially if you’re there during the day when al the tour groups are gone, you have the place to yourself, a real relaxing treat ). The staff is very attentive and helpful. They have beutiful gardens and a gorgeous tree lined alley going up to the hotel.

“Very nice, still within walking distance to downtown Palenque, nice open buffet restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011

Very nice hotel with beautiful grounds and gardens, still within comfortable walking distance to the Zocalo or within just two minute taxi ride. Tour groups often enjoy the buffet for breakfast and dinner, which was pretty decent actually considering how many groups and therefore people were there. The rooms are nice and big, offer free Wifi, cable tv, a/c and there’s some really nice arts and crafts vendors in the little plaza in front of the hotel. The hotel lies in a huge fenced in park area and they have a nice pool too.
