“Excellent 5 star treatment”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

What a great day to spend a couple of relaxing days. I was welcomed at reception as if they were waiting for me and was helped with luggage to my room . We made bookings for both nights in the restaurant and it was splendid. The bar was packed with other guests and had great atmosphere . the live fire in the drawing room was a treat.

Our room was facing the lake and was a postcard view from the window.
I would recommend all friends and family to go there . We are already planning a family get together at the hotel

Food was nice and the pork belly was amazing so was the hake. The wine list is so affordable and the Rioja we had was stored at the right temperature.

Our spa treatments were brilliant too

all in all a great experience and hats off to the wonderful team that looked after us . Especially Sid , Tim & Natalie .

Room Tip: Ask for the stable wing if you like a huge room or the main house rooms are brilliant too.

“Over-priced, poor service & microwaved english breakfasts? Not 4*”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I was thoroughly disappointed with my stay at the Albrighton Hall hotel.

There was stains from a leaking ceiling upon my arrval and a dirty towel left for me. Despite this apparently being a 4 star hotel, wi-fi is not included and they charge an eye watering £40 extra for it!

The shower in my room first spirted out ice cold water and then gave up altogether. I was moved to another room with another shower that didn't work. When I was given a room with a working shower the shower tray was blocked. I informed management yet nothing was done.

This is the first hotel I have ever experienced this and I believe it is indication that they do not understand their customer base.

Food at Albrighton is also over-priced and of a awful quality. Whether its microwaved english breakfasts or lamb casterole which is on par with bargin ready meals from the super-market (only Albrighton Halls costs around £16), its hard to find a good value plate of good food. Very poor service and no apology. Albrighton Hall also has a gym and thermal rooms, however throughout my stay the thermal rooms were either all out of action or mostly out of action and the floors in the changing room, pool area were absolutely disgusting meaning I showered twice after visiting.

I was offered a complimentary meal due to the terrible service and stay at Albrighton Hall yet due to the useless internal communication I was charged for inclusive breakfasts and for the complimentary meal on my check out meaning I had to verbally fight with the reception staff in front of other residents. Is that a 4 star service?

The location is great however there is no way this hotel is worthy of its 4 star status. I am usually a keen customer of Mercure and have used the brand many times in the last 2 years however this experience has put me off!

My advice is not to use this hotel.

Room Tip: Do not use.

Dear Guest,

Thank you, for your feedback. We did speak with you at length regarding your issues during your recent stay at Albrighton Hall Hotel and we feel that we did everything possible to ensure that your stay was enjoyable.

The complimentary upgrade to a privilege room for five nights was given to you as a gesture of goodwill, which we agreed with you personally.

We strongly disagree with your feedback regarding the food, service, communication and spa facilities.

Thank you, once more for your feedback.

Kind regards

“Impressive hotel superb food and service.”

My wife and I spent two nights here as part of a Red Letter Day package. The hotel is impressive and our room overlooked the lake and lawns. The room, although small, was very well equipped and the bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. We had breakfasts and evening meals and the food, presentation and service were superb. On checking out I asked if it would be much of a diversion to visit Ironbridge and the young lady printed off a map and instructions on how to get there.
Overall I could not fault the experience apart from the fact that I felt the "older" part of the property could have done with a little "TLC" but judging by the newer part it is probably part of a rolling refurbishment.
We would certainly stay there again and would recommend it to friends.

“Don't get room 19!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

This bedroom is more like a broom cupboard. There were LOTS of water stains running down the wall paper; the window did not open, paint was peeling off the window cill and when you need to sit down on the toilet in the very small bathroom you might find it difficult with the radiator in the way. And as for the sound insulation in this room - it must be almost non-existent as we could hear everything going on in the bedroom next door ( and I mean everything) and in the corridors outside which kept us both awake well into the early hours

Breakfast was OK but the plates were only warm on the rim, not the middle and my wife waited ages for the fried eggs to be replenished by which time the rest of her breakfast had gone cold.

Overall, probably one of the worst hotels we have stayed in during the past 5 years. I just hope that the other rooms are much better than Room 19 (and its identical twin on the other side of the corridor)

Room Tip: Ask what room you are going to be allocated first (not number 19!!!!!)

“Nice property, shame about the restaurant”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed one night in this very impressive building set in beatiful grounds with small lake and lawns and were given a room with 4 poster bed. We booked a table in their restaurant and after a trip to their swimming pool and my wife having spa trreatment sat down to eat. We sent back the carafe of water as I thought it tasted very slightly of a hint of soap - the head waiter explaned that all Mercure hotels pass all tap water through their special water filter machine. We asked then asked for branded bottled water. With the smoked salmon they served very nice brown bread but after receiving a second slice each the waitress returned immediately to our table and grabbed the bread from our plates saying that it was frozen in the middle. We waited and they came back with new slices which were now warm but delicious - we laughed at this point.
I had ordered the ribeye steak rare and my wife the fillet steak medium to well. They gave us the wrong plates and when we explained theyn were changed around. My wife's steak was as she wanted. I was surprised, firstly, by the shape and size of the steak given to me which was small and not like a ribeye I have seen before and it looked dry and very well done. I just cut it into two and saw that it was very well done all through and immediately told the waitress who took it away. My wife eat her steak alone before it went cold while I eventually manged to get one of 6 waiters to give me another glass of wine - it seemed that we were being avoided by all staff at this point. When my steak came it was very good and as I wanted ...but the meal had been ruined by eating one after the other. We did not laugh at this point and decided against a dessert. At checkout next day it appeared that they had reduced our meal bill by only about £7 which was no way to say sorry. We wont be going back to this hotel - this story has already been told to friends who enquired about our trip. Shame.
