Nice if pricey. Old 70s style american hotel which has been refurbished from time to time. Rooms definately on the small side for this part of the world and 7 nights led to some sense of being cooped up. The pools are outstanding and easy access to a long beach though local customs make swimming difficult. Restaurants are good but again high prices. There are good restaurants in a mall at the main access to the hotel- about 5 mins walk.

My daughter andf I had the pleasure of staying three nights at the Intercontinental in Muscat in January. Although there are newer hotels in Muscat that are far more expensive and somewhat more luxurious, the Intercontinental could well represent the best value in Muscat. This is a four star hotel with excellent restaurants and a truly exceptional management team and staff. Legendary friendly Omani hospitality is ever present. The rooms are somewhat small but well appointed and very quiet. The hotel has excellent swimming pools, beautiful grounds, and a nice beach. And, the central location of the hotel is, probably, the best in Muscat. Within a five minute walk from the hotel is a large beach front mall with excellent restaurants and shopping. We paid approximately $300.00 per night which, by Muscat hotel standards, is not expensive. You can easily pay two to three times as much for a hotel that might rate five stars but might not equal and, certainly, would not exceed the wonderful and welcoming hotel staff that is only too willing to make your stay special. The Intercontinental's outstanding management team and its entire staff understand the importance of loyalty and repeat business. And, everyone at the Intercontinental is genuinely friendly and only too willing to honor any reasonable request. I thoroughly enjoyed my three nights at this hotel and highly recommend staying here. I look forward to returning to the Intercontinental Hotel in Muscat later this year.

Stayed here for 4 nights early 2012. Staff were extremely friendly from arrival to departure. Room was spacious, clean and well equipped. Breakfast was fantastic with the widest selection I have seen. Staff were attentive and friendly. They asked if there was anything they could add to the menu that we would like. They also gave us breakfasts to take away on a day trip that left well before the restaurant was even open. Used the gym and found it quite good. The pool area was a bit too crowded for my liking but it did look very nice all the same. Generally can't say enough about how genuinely friendly the Omani people are. Had a great holiday and would definitely recommend the Intercon.

Recently spent 3 nights at the Intercontinental Muscat which was perfect location for a city stay. The hotel is tired but still has great service & Intercon quality amenities & facilities.

It does have beautiful grounds & heated pools.Unfortunately while we were there the pools & hotel were inundated with young tattooed males on some kind of leave who rather dominated with their behaviour but perhaps that is just Gulf life. Despite the great Concierge tour on their site, the concierge desk while we were there mostly had out of touch, minimal english assistants at the desk.

Oman is not a shopping or restaurant paradise & nor is it inexpensive but it is charming & the InterCon location gives easy access to the key tourist attractions & local shopping & restaurants. The staff at this hotel are what really make it an enjoyable stay & Omani people in general are just a delight.
