“Poor customer service”

Stayed over 1 night with my son, the actual stay was lovely, however i was charged twice for the room and have struggled getting a refund since and the manager has a very poor attitude to customer service. Only one of my phone calls has been returned by the manager, despite numerous messages being left with staff. On this occasion he left all my bank card details on an answer machine that was accessible by other staff at my work place, this was my fault, according to him because I didn't tell them it was a public answer phone. I'm now waiting for a new bank card & still waiting for my refund. He argued about the amount I have telephoned the hotel, stating he will provide telephone bills to prove me wrong if he has to, then admitted his staff hadn't passed messages onto him. When asked why he hadn't returned my phone calls his reply was that he was busy with more important things. Although the hotel was clearly in the wrong the manager was very argumentative and rude in his manner, he raised his voice over the phone and continually interrupted with comments such 'I'll send you the bank statements to prove you wrong'. What was an overnight stay with my son for a treat has turned into a very expensive nightmare.

Room Tip: My room backed onto the bar patio area which was noisy. (Room 2)

Thank you for taking the time to review are hotel. I am sorry to hear that after having a lovely stay the experience on making payment would cause you to want to put a terrible score on the review. The mistake of double charging was due to some internet booking sites taking card details in way of security and some actually taking payment before arrival however most do not take payment and only recently had we started using last minuete.com ( which i presume is who you booked through ). Of which caused some confusion with the staff on who had payed before arrival and who hadnt, however a system was put in place to make sure this didnt happen again and never has since.Unfortunatley card payment refunds dont automatically transfer straight into the bank, they usually take up to 3 working days and as we processed the refund for you imediatley it is out of our hands that the money does not go staight back to you.I am also sorry to hear from you that this wasnt explained to you in a manner that i would expect all of my staff to have been as professional as possible yet this is not always the case and i am now managing the hotel myself along with a great team of staff to ensure our customer service and daily running of the business is first class.
Kind regards Jade Hendon

“Wouldnt go back”

We stayed for 2 nights and it all looked very nice. After our day out we returned to find our beds still unmade, no towel changes, and no replenishment of the biscuits to go with the tea making facilities. Also we reporeted that one of the kettles wasn't working that still wasn't dealt with and still had'nt been seen to when we left. When we were asked if we would be dining i n the hotel on the Saturday and said no we were going out to eat at a local curry house it didn't seem to go down very well. The curry house was excellent and is run by an ex Gurker soldier, its called Katmandu well worth a visit. After settling our bill with the receptionist on duty we aired our disappointments but were'nt offered any kind of refund or appology just that our comments would be passed on. There didn't seem to be a senior member of staff on duty, if fact whilst we were paying another guest said was there anyone taking breakfast orders the receptionist on the desk was the same girl also trying to run the restaurant. As this hotel only has 8 rooms you would think that there wouldn't be any housekeeping issues well there are so be warned. On a more positive note the breakfast menu was very good as little or as much as you wanted, on the sencond day however were weren't offrered any toast, and as it was the same girl doing the breakfasts and the reception we didnt ask.

“Had a lovely stay and would go back!”

We arrived at 7.45pm after a long day at Alton Towers and were very tired and hungry! Booked a table in the restuarant at 8.30 and went to our room.
We had room 3 which had a four poster bed and it was a massive room with a lovely big clean bathroom!
There was a sofa in the room and and ironing board etc...
The bed was comfortable and the room was decorated nicely.
We had a lovely meal in the restaurant, the house wine was even nice.
The restaurant has a really nice cosy feeling to it.

The next morning we had breakfast which was amazing! I would reccomend having a cooked breakfast as it is all local produce. Biggest bits of bacon I have ever seen, with no fat!

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Nice surroundings and little village near by.

Would reccomend this to anyone.

This hotel is lovely. A Warm welcome from friendly staff, A superb comfortable room with everything you would expect. Delicious food with very generous portions. A bar stocked, not only with 4 different real ales, but a menu of bottled beers from all around the world. My wife and I will certainly be returning. Simply fantastic

“A Gem of a Hotel”

We have just returned home from a short stay at this hotel, and thought it was really lovely and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

As other reviews say, the staff are all very friendly and helpful. We ate in the bar for both nights of our say, and thought the food was fabulous - it was a shame we couldn't stay another night and try out the restaurant as well! The portions are huge, but every bit of the dishes were tasty, well cooked and well presented. They made typical home-made "pub grub" type dishes taste and look like they could be in a top restaurant, but at the price of the standard dishes at other pubs. It was a really nice, cosy atmosphere in the bar, and we coud easily have spent the whole evening in there.

As for the room, it was lovely and had a really homely feel to it. The bed was really comfortable. Yes, the en-suite could possibly do with a bit of updating, but it was clean and suitable and only seems dated in comparison to the rest of the hotel.

My only criticism would be that the walls and floors are very thin. Both nights we could hear the person in the room above us snoring. Also, the doors to the rooms are heavy, so were noisy when they shut, as was the wooden furniture, so we could hear whenever a drawer was opened or the wardrobe doors closed.

We though it was a really nice location, but you have to be prepared to drive about (as I think you would be with staying anywhere in the Peak District). There were bus stops near the hotel though, so I imagine you could get around without a car though.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone considering it.
