“Good for golfers and food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Stayed for a night at this hotel recently as it was a birthday present from my better half.

The hotel is very much geared towards golf and gym/spa enthusiasts, so, if you are into those activities, you will probably enjoy your stay. The golf course is large and challenging enough and the gym & pool are fairly well equipped for a hotel this size. Even though we didn't play any golf while we were there, we still enjoyed walking around the rather large golf course in the depths of winter. There was enough gym equipment such that even on a busy day, you didn't have to wait too long to use the equipment. We did not try the spa, so cannot comment on it.

It was a bit of lybyrinth to find our room as the hotel seems to be an extension from the main building, so the layout seemed a bit random. Our accommodation was OK. (i.e. everything worked, there was enough space and the bed was comfy enough) However, it isn't exactly the most romantic place it the world (especially since we had a view of the car park ) and the furnishings were pretty average. The shower worked well though - handy post-gym! :)

The food was the highlight of our stay. Dinner was excellent and the restaurant deserves the awards it gets. Prices and portion sizes were reasonable for the quality of food.

The only thing which was really annoying while we were there was that the fire alarm went off twice during the night, so, we didn't actually get much sleep. (It was so bad that we actually contemplated driving home in the middle of the night to get some sleep!) We tried to call up reception after the 2nd fire alarm to find out what was happening but all their lines were busy. However, to be fair, it probably wasn't the hotel's fault. We did ask reception the next morning if they knew what had happened, but they said they were still investigating.

All in all, it wasn't exactly the romantic getaway we had planned, but it was a pleasant enough stay. You just need to keep in mind that it's more like a golf club with accommodation rather than a hotel with golfing facilities.

Thank you for giving such thorough feedback. I am glad you made the most of our facilities; the views from the lakes by the golf courses are truly breathtaking. I look forward to passing on your comments to our chef; he will be delighted to hear such positive comments.

As for the fire alarm going off twice during one night we can only apologise. After it first went off we had the smoke sensor reset in the hope that would sort the situation however when it happened a second time that specific sensor was disabled. I hope you can understand that we were hesitant to disable it first time round as our customers safety is our first priority.

We hope to welcome you back in the future.

Kind regards

Luke

“Dont stay in room 101”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

i was really looking forward to my birthday treat which my friend organised.
it was an overnight deal including 3 course meal massage and b&b
from the minute we checked in there was a problem, the receptionist was not clear on our deal and even had to check with the spa how much the massages were extra, but the price was an inclusive one and it was cleary written in an email (which my friend had printed out, never expecting that it was going to ba questioned)
Next we went to our twin ROOM101 it was terrible, dated, bed valance did not fit, looked more like a hospital room, only 1 pk of biscuits and 1 drinking choc,i know we could ask for more but should not have too . Shocked to find no real ventilation in bathroom and notice to say if you dont shut the door the firealarm would go off.
We were both dissapointed we had high hopes for this spa especially as it has good reviews. So a bad start.
Not wanting to get down we trotted off to the spa where we had a massage booked a little later so we checked in at spa reception to be told we could not have a robe as we we not on the right package so again another heated discussion.
So the scenario was we had to undress for spa get dressed again for massage to get dressed again after with our clothes getting oily.Never ever have i come across this.
The swimming pool was cold, the jaccuzi boiling and the concept shower no more than a dribble .
By the way the massage was the only saving grace.
We then got ready for our meal and what a difference the restarant was lovely very different worlds we had travelled that day from our dreadful room to this decadent place and the food was sooo good, but there was even a blip on that they tried to charge us for the desserts why o why could not that go without a hitch.
All in all what was meant to be a special treat for my 50th birthday turned into a stressful one and we left vowing never to return.
I wonder what i would have written if not for mainly ROOM 101

Room Tip: if you get ROOM 101 ask to change it

“Perfect weekend break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We arrived home yesterday after a perfect weekend break. We got a fantastic deal on KGB and it was very easy to make our booking, reception staff were very friendly and helpful. We booked all the extras, afternoon tea, spa treatments, dinner..... It was all well worth it. We didn't even leave the hotel the whole weekend. Lucky because its in the middle of nowhere! Our room was one of the older rooms but was huge, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic, again staff were great. We'd definitely recommend the afternoon tea, such a treat!! The restaurant itself is lovely, overlooking the lake and the bar is so cosy with an open wood fire. Nothing is overpriced, even the drinks in the bar were normal prices. We had a full body massage in the couples room, so relaxing!! It was a perfect, relaxing weekend. We would definitely recommend.

“Wonderful Spa Weekend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

From the minute my friend and I arrived, we were looked after beautifully. We had a table reserved for the whole day and were treated like queens throughout. Amy and Lauren are fantastic therapists so make sure you book in with them! Danielle at reception was friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Lunch in the Spa was delicious and healthy (apart from desert!)
The room was clean and tidy. This wasn't one of their contempary rooms, but it was still roomy and bright. The hotel was very quiet when we arrived which was great. There was a great array for breakfast.

I am hoping to go back a few times this year. If you book the spa day and then the room ontop of that, they charge about 55 including breakfast. Fantasic value!
