“A lovely, peaceful oasis...”

We have just returned from a brilliant two weeks holiday at the Ariadni and we have had a ball.

Nothing is too much trouble for Vangelis, Georgina and family - not forgetting Marina who provides an excellent cleaning service six days per week - and they are extremely friendly and welcoming

Although - in line with most Greek self-catering accommodation - Ariadni is in parts basic, it is spotlessly clean and well maintained.

The pool area and bar/bistro is a great place to escape the midday sun and delicious, well priced food is available throughout the day. A nice, ice cold glass of draught Mythos with a fresh greek salad is highly recommended.

It is a little bit of a walk to Aghia Paraskevi and the main road but it is mainly flat and I would class it as a gentle stroll. On the way back to Ariadni, you will have a steep hill up to the apartments and studios but why not stop off half way and have that ice cold beer you've earned after a hard day on Skiathos fabulous beaches (try and get to Elias Beach, Mandraki).

There is a basic supplies kind of supermarket very close by - fresh bread rolls/ baguettes from 08:00 onwards - and a bigger supermarket by the bus stop on the main road.

Eating out (on foot) near Ariadni is a joy and I would highly recommend La Calma (facing Ariadni) and also Pegasus (halfway between Ariadni and the main road).

If you are looking for a relaxed, peaceful holiday in Skiathos in friendly, clean welcoming surroundings you will not be disappointed by Ariadni and the Kavouris family.

Room Tip: One bedroom apartments offer much more room and also appear to come with complimentary A/C and TV.

Please note, Tripadvisor that your title for these lovely apartments says that they are in Crete. They are actually in the Agia Paraskevi/Platanias area of Skiathos at bus stop 16. We know the island well but had not stayed in this area before. It is idyllic and peaceful with everything on your doorstep if you don't want to travel into town. The setting is lovely. Ten minutes walk from the main road, and up a short slope to the pool (not the Mount Eiger as some reports indicate) then up a further stepped path to the actual apartments. Not good for those with walking difficulties but no problem for anyone in only reasonable health. You don't need to be a mountaineer, and I'm not fit! The pool and landscaping is lovely. The apartments are two-storey 4-apartment blocks and all overlook the pool. They are built into a hillside so the views over the valley are lovely. There is a lot of entertaining wildlife around, goats, cockrels, so don't bother with an alarm clock, cats in abundance and the whole feeling is one of bucolic bliss. The studios are spacious - we had a bedroom with separate sitting-room and kitchen just for two. We had a lovely big balcony with table and four chairs. The kitchen is well-equipped with kettle, toaster and decent crocks and pans. The bathroom is of a high standard and the cleaning is also good. Flat screen TV in sitting room and hairdryer in bedroom. Air-con available, not sure of price but safe was only one euro a day. The owners are very friendly and helpful and the bar area by the pool is very convivial. Did not get chance to try the catering but drinks were cheap and a good selection. You can be on Agia Paraskevi beach in 15 minutes at a gentle amble and at the bus stop in ten minutes. If I wanted a quiet base, I would absolutely recommend this place. There is a small supermarket further up the hill and there are numerous nice tavernas and bars in the immediate area, as well as Vangelis, the owner's own.

Room Tip: All rooms are lovely.

“too far to the beach”

we have just returned from a lovely week in the ariadni hotel which was great the accomadation had everything we needed for our stay and the views were fab ,there is air con available if needed, the steep incline to the accomadation can be a struggle but we hired a jeep to see more of the island and this was very useful in getting up and down the incline ,the pool area is very well maintained and sunbeds are available , the only downside to our holiday was the beach was advertised as being only 750mts away or a ten min walk but we found it to be more like 950mts and we walked a good 20mins before we hit the beach , as we are beach lovers this was a problem so again the jeep came in very handy but overall we had a lovely hol . please also be aware that you get an early morning wake up call from the local cockerel and his buddys which sat on the wall outside our rooms .

“Thoroughly enjoyed our stay”

We booked a last minute holiday at the Ariadni, and had decided that as we knew Skiathos was such an easy island to get round, it wouldn't really matter where we stayed.

As it was, we couldn't believe our luck. These apartments are a gem tucked away in Aghia Paraskevi, and we were not disappointed.

Apartments were basic, but very clean, most with balconies that over-look the pool area. The pool is larger than most we saw, and the pool and surrounding area was cleaned every day by Vangelis and his family.

There is a lovely bar area next to the pool which serves food (wonderful home cooking!) and snacks during the day, and Vangelis would only shut the bar when the last person left.

The whole apartment block is on a bit of steep incline, albeit a short walk in all, but the pool/bar area is half way up so always worth having a quick stop off there before heading back to the apartment!

There are some neighbouring sheep, who you will hear in the morning and evening whilst they wait for Vangelis to feed them.

Vangelis is wonderful - very friendly and happy to talk to you if you are at the bar, and he did look after us. There is also a young lady called Joanne who works behind the bar and aside from being very cheerful (she is always smiling and singing), she makes the best cocktails!!

In terms of the situation of Ariadni, it is literally next door to a supermarket, so less than 2 minutes walk, plus along the same road are a number of tavernas, all within a 5-10 minute stroll (and I mean stroll as it was too hot to walk too fast!). It took about 10 minutes to walk to the bus stop (bus stop no. 16) every day, but the beauty of the bus is that because you are halfway along the route, the fare is slightly cheaper in both directions!

We definitely want to return to Skiathos as it is such a marvellous Island, and when we do go back, we will be heading back to the Ariadni.

Thank you Vangelis for a wonderful holiday, if you do ever read this!

  • Liked — The lovely pool area, and the friendly atmosphere
  • Disliked — Probably the steep incline to the room :o)

“Bliss”

Stayed here 3 years ago and still dream of going back. Basic, but that's all you need. The location is great. 10 min lovely walk to the beach and restaurants- a- plenty! You don't need a car. You could have a week here in Platanias happily without transport, but hiring a scooter is good fun. After all, there are 60 beaches on Skiathos! Mandraki beach is fab!
The apartment are clean and not a massive highrise. The views of the olive covered hills are beautiful. Please stay here. You'll have a lovely holiday.
