“Perfect spot for a honeymoon”

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. Carmen was the perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble.
She gave us discounted tickets to cross over on the ferry when we went to Mossman Gorge for the day and gave us loads of other tips about things to do in the area.
The only downside was that she had no longer served food when we went (back in November 2008) so we had to eat out at local restaurants but this was not a problem.
While we were there only one other couple was there and I think only for one night so we practically had the place to ourselves and got to use the infinity pool on our own.
The views were magnificent but I did wake up early every morning because there were no curtains but it did mean I got some amazing pictures of the sunrise.
Breakfasts were fabulous with Carmen's home made jams.
I can't fault anything about the place and would love to go back sometime. The Daintree itself also has loads of great activities. We tried horse riding, canopy surfing, crocodile spotting boat trip and much more which were all great.

We had a truly fantastic stay at Cockatoo Hill Retreat - Carmen was so hospitable & helpful.
The views from the room were awesome, the location perfect, the gardens lovley, breakfast was gorgeous the pool was just great - we had a brilliant time.
Lots to do and see - you need at least 3 days in Cape Tribulation to really enjoy the surroundings.

“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in September as part of our honeymoon in Australia. I had arranged the stay as a wedding gift to my husband, who has always wanted to get that real rainforest experience with a bit of added luxury, and I could not have wished for a better surprise. The location, the service from Carmen, the super comfortable beds - everything was wonderful. I will never forget watching the sun set over the ocean from our bed - while being in the middle of the Daintree!
This place is incredible, and Carmen is the perfect hostess. I would highly recommend a rainforest walk with Cooper Creek wilderness walks, and a short trip down the drive leads you to Lync Haven, which has a restaurant that I was really pleasantly surprised with, as well as various animals to have a look at. We at at Whet as well, which was nice, but if you fancy a big hearty meal in a family type atmosphere I would definitely recommend Lync Haven, as I will recommend Cockatoo Hill to every discerning traveller I meet.

“Amazing”

Gorgeous Gorgeous Place.... We stayed at the cockatoo hills retreat for three night. Carmen, The owner was very sweet and warming, Helped us so much with local knowledge, She went out of her way to book tours and restaurants for us, recommending places to go and do, which really helped us with our holiday.

Our tree house was absolutely beautiful, polished timber floor, roomy, a gorgeous timber bed with romantic netting, extremely comfortable and nice fluffy pillows, very tranquil at night, loving the relaxing melody created by the frogs, We slept very well each night, which is very unusual for my husband and I ( we are very attached to our own bed and pillow.)
View from our tree house was to die for, we got up early every morning to catch the sun rising up from the coral sea, peaking through the mist.

Our breakfast was very moreish, 3 course breakfast! , Started with a enormous bowl of fruit salad of local produce, ( very very yummy ) then help yourself with a selection of cereals, the final course is fresh hot croissants, toasts with a homemade jams (the pineapple jam was our favorite. ) We were also served freshly brewed coffee and Daintree tea and fruit juices.

The pool is beautiful, very relaxing for a lazy afternoon.

Lots of special touches during our stay, Like freshly picked flowers with breakfast and flowers on the door mat, one night we arrived back late from dinner with another couple, found Carmen had left us beautiful trails of candlelit lanterns towards our tree houses, it was so special, On our last night, returning back from dinner, a packet of ferrero rocher and a freshly picked flower was left on the door step for us, what a nice little surprise.

It was had to say goodbye to the retreat and Carmen, our biggest regret is the short length of our stay... my husband and I are already planning our next trip back next year.
Thank you Carmen, for our amazing stay.

“Paradise!”

We stayed at Cockatoo Hill for two nights towards the end of our 3 week holiday in Australia and were aboslutely bowled over by the its beauty, the peace and quiet and the hospitality provided by Carmen. We arrived in the dark and found candles lighting our way to our tree house. The room was wonderful, so romantic and with an uninterupted view over the rainforest and down to the sea.
Carmen was so kind and very helpful in suggesting what we should see and in recommending places to eat. The infinity pool was lovely, so tempting we went in on both days even though it was quite cloudy and damp outside!
The breakfasts were fantastic; a huge bowl of tropical fruit, cereal, toast, croissants and home made tropical fruit jams.
Yes it's expensive, but worth every penny!
