“The best place we have ever stayed”

I'm very late in writing this review, but really had to say how wonderful our stay was at Cockatoo Hill - Carmen is such a lovely and charming host, and the property itself is just stunning. The views to the coast and the rainforest, the beautiful butterflies, and the luxurious cabins combined to make this a really perfect end to our North Queensland holiday. My husband and I had been diving on the reef for 5 days prior to our arrival, and were pretty exhausted, so Cockatoo Hill was a real haven of relaxation. We wouldn't normally pay this much for accommodation, but decided to splurge, and I'm so glad we did. I couldn't recommend it more. Thanks so much Carmen!

“Old Fashioned Hospitality”

We chose Cockatoo Hill retreat as part of our destination for our honeymoon, and our stay there was nothing short of amazing. We were greated by Carmen as if we were relatives coming to stay, and this warmness continued through out our stay. Nothing was a trouble, she was very helpful in recommending and booking our tours, and gave great insight into the local area by recalling personal stories and factual information. The accommodation was breath taking, views are to die for, the bed was warm and welcoming, and the rooms are serviced daily with the quick but attentive hands of Karen. Breakfast was lovely and very filling, we loved the home made jams and Mitoosh (the cat) also gave a feeling of a home away from home. We would recommend Cockatoo Hill Retreat to anyone who needs R&R or just wants a breaktaking experience in the Daintree. It was almost sad to leave as Carmen was so gracious and friendly it was like we had met a long lost relative. A must at least once, and worth every cent.

“Lovely stay in the wonderful Daintree”

We had a great stay with lovely host Carmen. We arrived in the dark and were warmly welcomed by Carmen. There are only four tree houses and when we were there, we were the only guests, so we felt really privileged. The tree houses are beautifully decorated and the view is marvelous: you wake up with a view over the jungle and the sea in the distance. The breakfast is delicious with fresh fruit and homemade jams every day. We stayed for four nights and loved every minute.

The Daintree itself is beautiful! We went for a guided walk through the forest with Prue which was great, went snorkling in the Great Barrier Reef, made a boat trip on the Daintree River and saw cassowaries. Carmen arranged it all and had great tips about unguided walks we took ourselves as well.

The food in the local restaurants was not all that great, but we can recommend Whet. We spend a wonderful New Year's Eve there with delicious food.

“Perfect spot for a honeymoon”

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. Carmen was the perfect hostess and nothing was too much trouble.
She gave us discounted tickets to cross over on the ferry when we went to Mossman Gorge for the day and gave us loads of other tips about things to do in the area.
The only downside was that she had no longer served food when we went (back in November 2008) so we had to eat out at local restaurants but this was not a problem.
While we were there only one other couple was there and I think only for one night so we practically had the place to ourselves and got to use the infinity pool on our own.
The views were magnificent but I did wake up early every morning because there were no curtains but it did mean I got some amazing pictures of the sunrise.
Breakfasts were fabulous with Carmen's home made jams.
I can't fault anything about the place and would love to go back sometime. The Daintree itself also has loads of great activities. We tried horse riding, canopy surfing, crocodile spotting boat trip and much more which were all great.

We had a truly fantastic stay at Cockatoo Hill Retreat - Carmen was so hospitable & helpful.
The views from the room were awesome, the location perfect, the gardens lovley, breakfast was gorgeous the pool was just great - we had a brilliant time.
Lots to do and see - you need at least 3 days in Cape Tribulation to really enjoy the surroundings.
