“A Magic Land!”

We stayed 2 nights at Treebones in Yurt 7.
The Yurt was very comfortable and well equipped with an uninterrupted view over the sea. This was one of the more private locations. Though the Tree house also looks fun! No toilets in the yurts, so a bit of a walk back to the bathrooms - but worth it for the privacy and views.
The resort restaurant offered very good food, much of which they grow in their own garden.
Visit the garden if you are there - it is lovely, with humming birds flitting about between the flowers and fruit.
On the night we were there they had a guest singer - Jill Knight - who was amazing. It was wonderful to sit in the restaurant and enjoy good food and great music. An unforgettable experience and one of the highlights of our trip from the UK to Northern California.
I would definitely recommend Treebones to others - lying in bed, looking at the moon and listening to the sea lions - what could be better?

Room Tip: Yurt 7 is not overlooked and has uninterrupted views over the sea - but is further to walk back to t...

“Lunch at Treebones -Views from the Restaurant”

Our ROMEO (Retired Old men eating out) lunch group took the 45 minute ride from Cambria to have a fabulous lunch at Treebones. The scenery along the way was breathtaking. The view from the restaurant was panporamic. The grey whales (viewed fron the deck of the restauirant) were visible every 15 seconds and were heading South to Mexico. 15 of us enjoyed our lunches, prepared by chef Lisa. (Salmopn, Salads and Burgers were the most popularselections). The vegatables and salad all came from their own garden. After lunch we checked out the lodging facilities called "yurts". Wonderful day, fabulous food, and down to earh people and great viewing scenery on our round trip ride to the Big Sur from Cambria.

“Outstanding resort... this is the way you want to experience Big Sur!”

The 4 of us stayed in Treebones on our way to San Francisco from LA, right after Christmas. Treebones resort offers a really different lodging experience... not quite a hotel, not quite a lodge, not quite camping... it is basically a hybrid of the best of what all the aforementioned accommodations type have to offer.

1. Location: unbeatable. It is up in the hills and overlooks the ocean. Simple as that. It is well advertised on the road and easy to find. At night, make sure you to pay attention though... It is a bit above US-1 in that you barely see the road can get to see the ocean really easily. The dining area has stunning views.

2. Yurts: this is really a version of ultra-deluxe camping. The yurt we had (#7) was fully furnished with a queen size bed and a queen size futon. Plenty of extra comforters / pillows. Hardwood floor, mirrors, sky window, small gas heater, and sink. All was very thoughtful and beautifully done. We were there in December, and the temperature probably dropped around 40 at night. It was definitely cold in the yurt but the bed were really comfortable and we did not have any complaint. you certainly hear the wind, the waves... and the sea lions / elephant seals! A truly magical experience

3. Resort: beautifully done - limited number of yurts and very nice common areas. Our stay included a very hearty breakfast buffet; Shower areas are very well maintained - everything was simply spotless.

Overall: if you're adventurous but not ready to set your own tent or sleep on a pad, and if you're tired of the sterile motel/hotel stay, Treebones is your therapy. It is a unique way to experience big sur and we would not have had it any other way.

Room Tip: make sure you call the front desk to get one of the ocean front yurts...

“Very romantic!”

My husband and I wanted to get away for New Years Eve so I searched around and finally landed on Treebones. We found it easily and got settled into yurt #6. It is cozy and quite luxurious for "camping". The bed was comfortable and the restrooms were very clean. Yes you do have to use a shared bathroom but we just made sure to go before bed so we didn't need to go in the middle of the night. It was SO windy on NYE and the tent blowing around was quite loud so we asked for earplugs (which they have a supply of) and we slept well. I would have loved to listen to nature as we slept but the wind made that impossible. We ate at the sushi bar for dinner and while it was expensive it was by far some of the best and freshest sushi I have ever had. The free breakfast would be my only complaint. The eggs were ok but pretty basic and the waffles were average at best. It would be nice for some more variety, even if you had to pay for it. All in all we had a wonderful time and would gladly return to Treebones! It was quite an experience!

“Buyer beware”

A qualifier, i like camping and it is usually much cheaper. We travelled right after christmas and, for the price, Were not prepared to the shared public restrooms, the poorly heated room, the attitude of the staff. My wife had spoken in advance for a massage and was never called back. The staff just did not seem to care. The place is located over the hwy and with the exception of a few, most yurts are clustered together. Some kids next door kept screaming past 11pm. The restaurant is good and the staff friendly but for some odd reason only waffle, no bread or toast for breakfast. Finally, don't be fooled, by the name, trees are scarce and you are 40 minutes away from the well known hikes.
