We loved this place. Very romantic (but not inexpensive) and great place to honeymoon or just to spend one or more nights with someone you love. It's kind of right in the middle of nowhere on the PCH about 20 miles south of Nepenthe.
We arrived late but fortunately they held our reservation. Before going to our cabin, we had a nice dinner at the lodge's restaurant (food was good but not great). Our cabin was in the oldest section facing the ocean (the cliff leading down to the ocean was 10 feet from our door). The room was quaint (not real roomy but roomy enough for two) with a decent sized bed (enough for two people in love), a small bathroom, a sofa, table and chairs and a gas fired heater. We had a tough time figuring out to turn the heater on. It was cold enough that we absolutely needed the heater. We followed the directions posted on the wall but couldn't get the thing working after many attempts. Finally I walked over to the restaurant which was already closed for the day, but I knocked anyway and fortunately two of the kitchen workers were finishing cleaning up but came to our rescue and showed us how to get the heater going. (We did give the two guys, who didn't speak much English, a nice tip for their help.) Turns out that the directions on the wall were wrong!
When the sun came up the next morning we saw the most fantastic view of the Pacific with the mountain falling right into the sea. It was breathtaking. We had a good breakfast at the lodge restaurant and headed north to have lunch at Nepenthe, a restaurant that I believe was once the home of author Henry Miller. It was also used in a old movie with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. I think it was "The Sandpiper"? Nepenthe is definitely worth stopping to experience (more fantastic views of the ocean). Food was pretty good but again not fantastic. You don't go to these places for the food but the views are out of this world.
