We had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Glen Oaks just before Christmas, and it was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had.
We ended up getting to Big Sur a night early, with no booking, and the staff at the Glen Oaks could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. They didn't have any of the Little Sur cabins free, but we got one of the King Size fireside lodge rooms, and it was perfect. We entered the room (#9) through our private yard, and were immediately taken in by not just the cozy outside space, but the amazing gas fireplace and thoughtfully designed and spacious room (including couch and coffee table with a selection of magazines). It being December, the gas fireplace and underfloor heating were much appreciated, and we also enjoyed being able to sip our morning coffee outside by the fire. Helpfully, there was a mini fridge in the room and a general store at the property next door where we were able to stock up on snacks and drinks.
As much as we loved the king size room, we were excited to move to one of the Little Sur cabins for our second night. They're definitely compact, and not necessarily something I'd recommend for an extended stay, but for two people and one night it was perfect. The first thing we did was light the fire pit, before enjoying dinner outside (the cabins are equipped with kitchenettes) in our little nook among the redwood trees. Our little cabin was right next to the river, we had no problems finding it thanks to the helpful instructions and map from the hotel staff, and much like the fireside room, we were really impressed by the design and attention to detail.
I was fully prepared to spring for the Ventana until I found Glen Oaks on Trip Advisor, and I'm so glad I did. Charming, well-designed, and staffed with incredibly friendly people, I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
