“Do it. Make the reservation.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We stayed two nights in the small duplex cabins after looking at the rooms in the motor lodge. The rooms are nice, bigger, & nearer to the highway & office but the cabins were just up the road and near the river in a wooded area. It was a perfect combination of being in the forest & having excellent accomodations at the same time. Don't hesitate, make your reservations for the cabins if you enjoy being near the river & trees.

“An amazing oasis of good design among the redwoods”

We had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Glen Oaks just before Christmas, and it was one of the best hotel stays I have ever had.

We ended up getting to Big Sur a night early, with no booking, and the staff at the Glen Oaks could not have been friendlier or more accommodating. They didn't have any of the Little Sur cabins free, but we got one of the King Size fireside lodge rooms, and it was perfect. We entered the room (#9) through our private yard, and were immediately taken in by not just the cozy outside space, but the amazing gas fireplace and thoughtfully designed and spacious room (including couch and coffee table with a selection of magazines). It being December, the gas fireplace and underfloor heating were much appreciated, and we also enjoyed being able to sip our morning coffee outside by the fire. Helpfully, there was a mini fridge in the room and a general store at the property next door where we were able to stock up on snacks and drinks.

As much as we loved the king size room, we were excited to move to one of the Little Sur cabins for our second night. They're definitely compact, and not necessarily something I'd recommend for an extended stay, but for two people and one night it was perfect. The first thing we did was light the fire pit, before enjoying dinner outside (the cabins are equipped with kitchenettes) in our little nook among the redwood trees. Our little cabin was right next to the river, we had no problems finding it thanks to the helpful instructions and map from the hotel staff, and much like the fireside room, we were really impressed by the design and attention to detail.

I was fully prepared to spring for the Ventana until I found Glen Oaks on Trip Advisor, and I'm so glad I did. Charming, well-designed, and staffed with incredibly friendly people, I couldn't recommend it highly enough.

“Really modern forest cabin, much better than the 'rustic option'”

On our journey up Pacific Coast Highway we wanted to spend a couple of nights at Big Sur and intentionally didn't book in advance so that we could sus out some of the options when we arrived. Well I have to say that the first place we looked at in the resort next to Glenn Oaks filled us with a feeling of dread, the 'rustic' cabin in our opinion just wasnt very pleasant at all. So when we discovered what Glen Oaks had on offer for pretty much the same price we snapped up the little sur cabin. There are a few different cabins to stay in, we had a look at the River view duplex which was just beautiful, so well decorated and so spacious but we just couldn't jusitfy the extra expense. The Little Sur cabin isn't big, but it was fine for the couple of nights we were there and it was lovely and warm despite the outside temperatures getting a bit on the chilly side. The ability to have a fire outside it lovey, just sitting there back to nature with the trees and the stars. Lady who booked us in was also really helpful and friendly. There was absolutely nothing at all to find fault with, highly recommend Glen Oaks

“our little cabin in the woods”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

We stayed in Forrest View, one of Glen Oak's delightful duplex cabins. Stylishly decorated (it really is madmen in the woods!) and thoughtfully appointed with cool glassware, dishes and such...it's those subtle touches that really elevate the cabin experience. So often your choice is only some basic/bland accommodation or over the top fancy, but Glen Woods hit the perfect balance of understated elegance in a rustic setting. The heated floors in the bathroom were particularly awesome as was the unbelievable comfy and large bed and the already set up fire pit just outside our door. Enjoyed the bath along with a little wine and making smores under the stars -- all of which was purchased at the little market right next door to where you check in...which features a decent collection of wine and other small market items. There's also coffee and oatmeal in the room as well as filtered water in the fridge. Very very cool.

Only stayed one night and already looking forward to visiting this little gem in the woods.

Only (minor) negative is that most of the 'cabins' are duplexes so if you're not used to the usual noise that inevitably emanates thru a shared wall (esp one where there's a door between the two rooms like ours), be ware. It's really not all that bad mind you, but you might hear your neighbors muffled voices esp against the backdrop of the blissfully quiet redwoods and nearby river. Gorgeous!

Room Tip: Forrest View or River View - two rooms/one duplex with a shared door. We walked around the property...

“Exactly what we expected - thanks Trip Advisor!”

We stayed in the "last cabin" - the Big Sur Cabin. Nice location, as there is nobody else nearby or driving by. Two fire pits, the one off of the bedroom is awesome. We downloaded a tv episode and enjoyed that on our ipad while sitting by the fire one of our nights. Also nice to just sit and enjoy the tranquity.

The cabin was clean, although the fridge needed to be deiced pretty bad - they should invest a few extra bucks and buy a frost free. Heated bathroom floor was a nice touch.

Would recommend this spot to anyone wanting a great place to spend the evenings in a quiet setting, and not dropping $800 a night at Ventana or Post Ranch.
