“Extraordinary… almost”

We spent two nights at the Post Ranch Inn as part of our our drive along the Pacific Coast Highway. The Inn and the coast line around Big Sur (from Carmel to Morro Bay) were the highlights of our trip.

Post Ranch Inn is one of the best and most unique places we have ever stayed at.

From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you have a fantastic experience. The rooms (Ocean House) are fantastic - phenomenal views (you imagine you can almost see Japan) and fantastic facilities (two sided wood burning fire place – faces the bed and the spa bath).

The grounds are beautiful and large enough room to go for 40 minute walks and 2 hot basking pools (infinity edge) hidden on the cliff edges. The kitchen provided us with a picnic loaded into a backpack so we could go for an extended walk outside of the ranch grounds.

We had a fantastic New Years Eve dinner that was made all that more memorable by the Wine Director, Dominique DaCruz. Dominique created a selection of matched wines by the glass for each course. He was more than happy to explain the reasons for each selection and get our feedback and views.

Not only was the breakfast great, so where the views from our table on the outside balcony. The highlight was finally being able to get a really good cup of coffee for breakfast - the barista was more than happy to re-create a really strong Australian style long black coffee.

Before dinner on our second night they set up a powerful telescope in the area adjacent to the restaurant to we could get a tour of the stars and planets with our pre-dinner drinks.

Warning – there was one thing that disturbed our relaxation. Our Ocean House was the closest to the restaurant building and after lunch on New Years day we were constantly disturbed by lunch guests (not staying at the Inn) as they left the restaurant and admired the view, loudly and at length, at the viewing point (and bench) close to our balcony.

We were very disappointed by this, and while the resort management apologised (and compensated us); we feel that this should not have happen at a resort that promises privacy and relaxation (“…. Post Ranch Inn is a sanctuary of natural luxury – small, serene, seductive …….the inn offers an unforgettable escape for a romantic getaway or relaxing vacation”) and for the amount they charge for an Ocean House.

However, given the opportunity we would definitely stay here again – but for longer.

Room Tip: We suggest you ask for a room/house away from the restaurant and the basking pools

“Otherworldly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

This is the best resort I have ever stayed at. The service is excellent, the food is 5 star, the accommodations are beautiful and rustically elegant, the massage was amazing, the setting - out of the this world.

The attention to detail, quality and aesthetic here, along with the stunning natural beauty of the setting, imbues the visitor with a heartening, inspiring and relaxed feeling.

Post Ranch Inn is a bit pricey, but it is so worth it; we could not resist staying longer than originally planned, and we will definitely be visiting again. If you can afford it, you owe it to yourself to visit the Post Ranch Inn.

“Undeniably, the best rustic resort.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

I recently stayed at the Post Ranch Inn; along with my wife. We were celebrating our 2 year anniversary. This resort is located magnifisanly above the Pacific Ocean along the Big Sur coast.
During our stay we used one of the Lexus Convertibles that the resort lends to their in house guests (what a delight must I say). We took the car our to Julia Pfiffer State park and went on the Partington Cove, and the Ewoldsen trails and had an amazing romancit time together.
The resirt offers 2 infinity style hot tubs their is one at each end of the Resort and both are at reasonable walking distance. I preffered the Meditation pool ad it is more private and relaxing; especially since you can be in the nude with your partner and no one around.
The staff at Post Ranch was exellent especially at check in, the Front Desk staff is amazing as well as the Bell men.
My only advice is putting a larger sign out side of the property to make it easier to find this magnificant place; especially for the guest that are driving in from the north.
I strongly reccomend this place as your next romantic destination, but keep in mind that it is pricey, as it took me 2 years to save up for this romantic 2 night stay. All in all we were both very pleased and will definitely come back as soon as we save for our next stay here.

“An Amazing Hotel”

My wife & I stayed at the Post Ranch Inn at the end of a Round-the-World trip shortly after I retired. It was a birthday surprise for my wife & made a great impression on her. Everything about this property is top quality; it is a very special place indeed. Whilst not inexpensive, it is very good value for money if you are looking for something very, very special. Our accommodation was in a Butterfly house, complete with an open log fire & a well stocked fridge of goodies that were all included in our room rate. This is true luxury - highly recommended.

Room Tip: All the rooms are superb

“Serenity like no place else”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

From the moment we drove up to the guard station entering the resort, we had nothing but a perfect experience at Post Ranch. The attention to detail and the impeccable service is really the highlight to this magical place.

We opted for the Coast House Room for our stay and now can't imagine staying here without getting a unit with this glorious view. The room is lovely and although a tad bit dated, the attention to every detail and the pristine cleanliness of the makes it a most delightful experience. The well stocked fridge, pre-set fireplace, binoculars for nature viewing and the Bose sound system make it almost impossible to want to leave the room.

I had 2 spa treatments in my room(exfoliation body scrub and a massage), both of which were some of the best I have had anywhere. We went on the guided nature hike and did the night telescope star gazing. This is a place that is designed for relaxation and serenity. I love that is intimate and designed for adults who want rejuvenation and quiet.
