We spent two nights at the Post Ranch Inn as part of our our drive along the Pacific Coast Highway. The Inn and the coast line around Big Sur (from Carmel to Morro Bay) were the highlights of our trip.
Post Ranch Inn is one of the best and most unique places we have ever stayed at.
From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you have a fantastic experience. The rooms (Ocean House) are fantastic - phenomenal views (you imagine you can almost see Japan) and fantastic facilities (two sided wood burning fire place – faces the bed and the spa bath).
The grounds are beautiful and large enough room to go for 40 minute walks and 2 hot basking pools (infinity edge) hidden on the cliff edges. The kitchen provided us with a picnic loaded into a backpack so we could go for an extended walk outside of the ranch grounds.
We had a fantastic New Years Eve dinner that was made all that more memorable by the Wine Director, Dominique DaCruz. Dominique created a selection of matched wines by the glass for each course. He was more than happy to explain the reasons for each selection and get our feedback and views.
Not only was the breakfast great, so where the views from our table on the outside balcony. The highlight was finally being able to get a really good cup of coffee for breakfast - the barista was more than happy to re-create a really strong Australian style long black coffee.
Before dinner on our second night they set up a powerful telescope in the area adjacent to the restaurant to we could get a tour of the stars and planets with our pre-dinner drinks.
Warning – there was one thing that disturbed our relaxation. Our Ocean House was the closest to the restaurant building and after lunch on New Years day we were constantly disturbed by lunch guests (not staying at the Inn) as they left the restaurant and admired the view, loudly and at length, at the viewing point (and bench) close to our balcony.
We were very disappointed by this, and while the resort management apologised (and compensated us); we feel that this should not have happen at a resort that promises privacy and relaxation (“…. Post Ranch Inn is a sanctuary of natural luxury – small, serene, seductive …….the inn offers an unforgettable escape for a romantic getaway or relaxing vacation”) and for the amount they charge for an Ocean House.
However, given the opportunity we would definitely stay here again – but for longer.
