“go for 2 nights”

Ok, so it was rainy when we arrived and the receptionist did not seem very friendly, but she did offer us wine. When we checked into our room I thought, this is not worth the price. Again, due to the rain, we had dinner at their restaurant which seemed overpriced. (There are other restaurants in the area, and the staff will provide free transportation).

But luckily we stayed 2 nights. I felt completely different the next day. The sun came out and the view is spectacular! We had the complementary breakfast (very good- get the sticky buns and mini quiche) and attended the yoga class, then went to the beautiful pool. We had lunch at their restaurant which is much more reasonable, and it is on a beautiful patio overlooking the ocean. (The fish tacos and steak tacos are great). There is wine and cheese in the afternoon. There is also a short nature hike led by Stephen Copeland. He is very entertaining.

It turned out to be a very relaxing mini vacation. Of course we fit in fine since we went for my 60th birthday. Almost everyone is in this age category. Even so, keep in mind that one of the pools (the only one open during our stay) is clothes optional. It is not pleasant to see most 60 yr olds in the buff.

“beautiful resort but a bit too expensive for the offering”

Big Sur is magical. Originally came for lunch last year as we were driving down the coast with a few of my kids. Came back now with my husband to spend a few days. Originally got a villa that was dark with essentially no view. We asked to be moved to a nicer unit and were immediately accommodated. The unit had lovely mountain views with a hot tub on the deck and we were very pleased. The grounds and the setting are stunning with lots of local planting and redwoods. The staff were all pleasant, the hiking was awesome, breakfast was great. The amenities were wonderful. The spa was actually less than acceptable. I had a terrible massage there and nothing to justify the expense, so go elsewhere for this. We ate in the restaurant for dinner and had a great time/meal. One night we ordered in room dining and had the worst food ever. AVOID that one too.
So, overall a lovely place to stay albeit a bit too expensive. Less than acceptable spa experience, terrible in-room dining but overall stunning location with nice staff.

“Great Place to Stay, but may not be worth the cost.”

Overall the resort is beautiful and the rooms have nice amenities. However, I had a hard time justifying spending $750 per night for a fairly small room that was comparable to $350 room at a standard luxury hotel.

“Peaceful, relaxing, beautiful”

We were lucky enough to find the Ventana Inn on Sniqueaway and booked a trip at a very favorable price. Everything about our stay was delightful: our room was attractive, we enjoyed the Japanese baths, and we took advantage of the free yoga classes and daily hikes. The breakfasts were wonderful and the public spaces in the resort were lovely. We also had some terrific treatments at the spa. We found out on the last night that the resort offers shuttle service to some of the nearby restaurants, which is a particular plus if you want to dine at Deetjens, which might require you to park on the shoulder of a pitch black Highway 1! Overall, we found the staff to be very helpful and nice.

“Stay for more than 1 night...”

We only stayed for 1 night and this was the biggest error ever. It is truly a gorgeous place and a whole experience in itself. We traveled for 19 days and this was one of our favorite places.

We enjoyed the free yoga class and wished we could have done the nature hike. We were thrilled with the free champagne waiting for us in our suite. Dinner in the dining room was one of the most delicious ever. The service was excellent and made my husband's 40th birthday a luxurious experience. Brunch was delicious but we wished they had served Chai Lattes. Free parking daily and even the cars had an amazing view.

The pools and spas are totally out of this world and we are sad to live so far away from this heavenly place....
