You need to know what you are getting into before booking this location. It is very remote, and you should plan on having a car. Because of nearby construction, the ride in is a bit intimidating, but the hotel is far away from the construction site and it will not impact your stay in the least.
This is an "eco hotel" with no electricity except in the evenings until 11:00, and no air conditioning. It's worth it to get a sea-facing room, as the breeze is better. On site people are very nice and try to be helpful, but bring your Spanish dictionary! Food was very good.
The beach is wonderful - walk for miles and see no one. Get up before dawn and you might see turtles returning to the sea after laying their eggs!
The nearby town (Puerto Morelos) has some great places to eat - try the Oasiz and the Cactus. Also, very cheap snorkeling excursions to a very, very good reef from the blue kiosk just on the NE corner of the town square. ATV rental available, too.
This provides an "authentic" Mexican experience, with no resort distractions. Bring a book or two and an ability to relax.
