“Truly awesome!”

I went here with my partner, this is 5 star or more. Can’t wait to go back, as we arrived there was champagne on arrival which made us feel very special. We did have to wait on getting our room for over an hour, but since the hotel so big we just had a walk around. The room was very clean and the shower room was massive. Room service was out of this world, you do have to tip in Mexico so this was new to us. All the al carte restaurants were really a high standard. Personally I didn’t enjoy the seafood one due to there was just not enough food on the plate. One down side I can say the entertainment was very poor sometimes and did not last till after 11pm. There is a night club but that was dead most nights.

“3 YEARS IN A ROW AND STILL "EXCELLENTE"”

My fiance and I were back at this hotel from1/26 thru 2/2/2012. We saw all the staff members from the previous years and they were very happy to see us again. This ia a great hotel to stay in. Our thanks to Oscar, his dad who have served our meals for the past three years. We first met at the buffet and now Oscar works at the lobster and grill restaurant. His dad at the Indian restaurant.
Also to Ramon at the breakfast buffet who we met last year. A special thank you to senorita Maca for being so nice and attentive. We are looking forward to going back next year.

“Exotic Resort Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Travelled as a couple for 2 weeks from 24th January till 7th February 2011. Our first visit to Mexico, and absolutely loved Excellence Riviera Cancun. And will never hesitate going back again.

Smiling faces, champagne and cold towel upon arrival were a very nice gesture. Our room was in Block 6 facing the spa (with nice chilled music) and the lazy river - very quiet, away from the main bars and main area, exactly as we would prefer.

The food was "Excellente". We particularly loved Chez Isabelle and visited there 4 times. Each time we asked for Luis to be our waiter, very likeable and very professional. Amazing food, great atmosphere, brilliant waiter. We even had a romantic dinner there courtesy of one of the managers whose name failed me, sorry. We loved having our daily buffet breakfast and lunch in Barcelona and we were served by two outstanding waiters in Ramon (Chakaron) and Antonio (Bokas), brilliant people and we always had a laugh with them which made the vacation more especial. We visited all the restaurants and loved them all. No complaints whatsoever. We made a point to get there by 6pm and apart from 1 time when we waited for 45 minutes, we always got a table. Although the Martini bar is handy for anyone waiting for a table with brilliant selection of cocktails, try the Espresso Martini and the Excellence Martini. All the bars provided great selection of cocktails. I love Sol Bar near the beach and my favourite cocktail was Riviera Maya.

Day and Night entertainment/activities were good. My partner especially loved Yoga at 10am by the Spa. The entertainers were absolutely amazing. We enjoyed archery and beach volleyball with Angel, dancing on the Wii and making towel animals with Daniel, learning Salsa with Sergio, yoga for couples with Paola. These guys entertained everyone with constant smile in their faces. On our last day, Angel and Sergio came specifically to say goodbye to us which was a very nice gesture, thank you.

Special thanks to Rosaria the guest relation manager. I was taken ill in one of the days and she arranged a bowl of fruit in our room and asked room service to prepare chicken soup and rice for me. And Silverio, the bar manager for the nice bottle of wine in our room.

Overall, we had the best time of our lives. We loved the resort, the beach, the entertainment, the food, the people we met and most of all the staff for making it a truly unforgettable experience. Will we go back? Absolutely.

Room Tip: Block 6 opposite the spa is quiet.

“Just book it! You'll be glad you did :)”

My husband and I stayed from 1/14-1/21/12. I have a terrible time making decisions, but was convinced by other reviewers that this was the perfect place for us. We have been to many all-inclusive hotels and this was by far, the best one yet. The staff and the food were the highlights. We enjoyed all of the restaurants we dined at - Agave, Basmati, Spice, Chez Isabelle and the Lobster House. Our favorite was the French restaurant, Chez Isabelle. Our waiter Luis was so special that we ate dinner there twice. The second night he had the chef prepare us a 5 course gourmet meal that was not offered on the menu and everything was amazing!!! Luis and his fellow staff made our experience a memorable one. I had a manicure and pedicure and we both had massages at the Mille Spa that were superb. Danny is in charge of the water sports and was extremely helpful when my husband wanted to take a catamaran out for a spin. Our room was spacious, comfortable and always clean. We both highly recommend the Excellence and am sure you will find it as wonderful and relaxing as we did. Bon Voyage!

“Just Shy of a 5 Star Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Having traveled  extensively throughout the world, this was our first experience at an all inclusive resort as we like to explore and try new things so we prefer the flexibility of planning and executing things on our own.  It rained every day we were there but we had a wonderful time as we decided to have a good attitude and make lemonade out of lemons.  There was some quality time in the sun between the cloud bursts of rain.

The resort was showing some signs of aging but was well maintained.  Perhaps the best part of the resort is the friendly and helpful staff.  With rare exception, every staff member we encountered from housekeeping and maintenance to waiters and maitre 'd would give us a sincere smile and a warm hello.  Most spoke English very well and we had no problem communicating throughout our stay.

We ate at nearly every restaurants and the food and atmosphere were very good to excellent.  With the exception of French restaurant, all of the desserts we tried we average.  The service at The Grill and Lobster House was a little slow but not unbearable.  The steaks at The Grill were average and were much better at the French restaurant.  The Barcelona served breakfast buffet style and they had excellent variety and taste.  Eggs, omelets and pancakes were made to order.  Note: if it is raining, the mosquitos can eat you alive.  As most eateries had outside dining options, be sure to take some bug repellent especially if wearing short sleeves or pants.

The Spa was outstanding!  My wife and Each had a 100 minute massage.  The spa staff was attentive and the therapist did an excellent job. We were thoroughly pleased with our experience and felt that the prices for a resort were reasonable and the entire experience exceeded our expectations. If you are going to the spa you must take advantage of the free one hour hydrotherapy session prior to your spa treatment.  It was unique and very relaxing.

There were only a few negative experiences.  First, the beds were very firm - the antithesis of the Heavenly Bedding you would find in a Westin Hotel.  Second, the beautiful marble floors were not compatible with the chairs in the room.  When you slid them they made a terrible screeching noise.  This was problematic if the guests in the room above you arose earlier or stayed out later than you.  It woke is up a few times as the noise reverberated directly into our room.  The best solution is to get a room on the top floor and knowing this picking up the chair so it doesn't bother the guest below you.  Finally, in spite of the signs requesting that guests not reserve the lounge chairs and towels around the pool, they did it any way and the rule was not enforced.  We soon discovered that if you didn't grab some pool towels by 10:00 a.m. they were gone and very hard to obtain as most guests took two or three towels a piece (we affectionately referred to them as the towel hogs) .

Overall, we had a very good experience.  Itwas a good experience and we had a wonderfully relaxing time and came home refreshed and rejuvenated.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room on the top floor. This will assure that you avoid the noise from the chairs i...
