“Upgrade to Privilege status!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

We stayed at this resort in January 2012 and had 2 rooms in building 2. If you are looking for peace & quiet, this is the best area of the hotel. The rooms on the higher floor have the better views. Our room on the first floor had no beach/ocean view and looked out at the bushes and trees, which tended to make the room a bit dark. Our room on the 3rd floor had a much nicer view of the water and allowed more sunlight in the room.
After our first day, and waiting over an hour to be seated in the Italian restaraunt for dinner, we all upgraded to the Privilege status level. This upgrade made a huge difference in the level of service we received from the staff at this resort. I would not recommend staying at this place without upgrading to Privilege status unless you don't mind long waits for dinner every night and being told that there is only one beach towel per person.
The Privilege club area, called Fusion, was very nice and had a beautiful deck overlooking the beach and great cocktails! The Privilege section of the beach was also very nice and Enrique our beach waiter was the best! All of the lounge chairs in this section had comfy cushions that were not available in the other area of the beach.
Thanks to our Privilege upgrade, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this resort and had a blast!

“Amazing - January 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My boyfriend and I stayed at this resort with another couple for during the week of January 21-30. It was absolutely amazing!

We arrived late at night and the staff was very nice and accommodating. Our rooms were on the main floor, which was very convenient because we were located near everything and we didn't have to go up and down stairs to get to our room.

Every morning we would get our towels around 8am and reserve our chairs by the pool. Places are limited, but we never had any problems getting lounge chairs. There was even two days where we went to the pool at 10:30 am and in the afternoon, and we were able to find chairs at those times as well.

We usually had breakfast in the buffet, which had surprisingly good food! There is a lot of selection: omelets, waffles, pancakes, cereal, fruit, toast, croissant, etc.

We would then lounge by the pool in the afternoon. One of the waitresses, Rocio, was absolutely amazing. She was always in a great mood and she knew all of our names and would often chat with us.

Around 3pm the entertainment staff will usually host a game/contest, which is always amusing. We loved the entertainment staff. In particular, we really liked Michelle, Leo, Oscar and Denisse. They were amazing. Every time they would all come to the pool, everybody's face would light up, they all have really positive and amusing personalities.

In the evening, we would have dinner at one of the a la carte restaurants. All three restaurants (plus the creperie) were excellent, but the Japanese restaurant was by far the best.

We always started our nights by playing cards and having drinks in the beautiful lobby. This is where we met Grizelda, a young waitress who works at Mike's cafe during the day and serves in the lobby at night. Grizelda was an absolute ray of sunshine. She was so sweet, she knew all of our names and would teach us Spanish, whenever we asked. She even noticed that we had not gone to the lobby on one of the nights.

We would usually end our nights by going to a beach party/pool party/kareoke, etc... that was organized by the hotel. The entertainment staff was usually there and they knew how to make it amazing each night. There is always something to do at night, but everything seems to shut down around 12:00am. The sports bar is open until 6:00am, and they have an amazing Cesar salad there.

We went to Coco Bongo on one night (organized by the Hotel). Oscar accompanied us there and Denisse met up with us. Those two had worked all day (I had seen them at the pool) and still had the energy and charisma to party with us until 3:30am - they are really nice and fun.

If you want to do any activities, I suggest going to see a man named George on the beach. His booth is located between this resort and the adjacent resort. We signed up for snorkeling and the ATV/zip lining/cenotes tours through him. He gave us a very good deal and was really pleasant to deal with.

The only bad experience we had was when we asked for information from the gentleman at the main entrance who are responsible for calling taxis when needed. We wanted to Cancun and to Playa del Carmen, and heard that it was cheaper to go by public bus. We asked for their input and they immediately tried to talk us out of it by saying it was very difficult to get a bus and it was dangerous, etc. etc. and they strongly pushed for us to take a taxi instead. Raffael was the worst. I think they make commission or get a cut for referring taxis. But the truth is, we took the bus to La Isla shopping in Cancun and to Playa del Carmen, it was very easy to get the bus and I have never felt safer. There is a huge difference in price between taking the bus to these places and taking a cab.

Other than the misguided advise that we received from the taxi people (on numerous occasions), our stay at this resort was amazing. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful week, this is where to go. Needless to say, we did not want to leave.

Room Tip: Rooms on the first floor facing the garden (we had rooms 16101 and 16102) are very conveniently loca...

“I will be going on my 2nd stay at the Ocean Coral & Turquesa”

I will be going back on Feb. 11th to the 18th we are two couples hoping to have a wonderful 20th wedding anniversay. I have nothing bad to say about this resort except I hope they have changed their way to reserve at the restaurants. I cannot stand to wait in line everyday to reserve for your restaurant. This absolutly needs to change. So I guess this message is for JOSE ALEJANDRO GONZALEZ POU, Manager, I do hope you read this as this is the only negative remark I have about your Hotel as it is beautiful and you treat every guest very nicely, your staff and grounds are spectacular. Congratulations. Please look into this as we are coming next week (arriving on the 11th of February)

“AMAZING HOTEL AND AMAZING STAFF”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This hotel is by far one of the best hotels in the Mayan Riviera. I travelled here from Jan 21 to Jan 31 with my boyfriend and another couple. From the moment we got there to the moment we left we received impeccable service that will not be forgotten. The rooms are very well kept and well cleaned every day. This is a very eco friendly hotel, with motion censored lighting and water conservation signs all over the room. Also the towel service works very well in the room as only the used towels placed in the bathtub are changed everyday.

The food in this hotel is very pleasant. The breakfast buffet was my favourite as there is many different options. The lunch buffet had a very big salad bar which was always delicious. For dinner we only dined at the buffet one night. It was good, however we preferred the A La Carted much better. There was a bit of a wait on a few nights to get in however nothing too long and well worth the wait. The service at this hotel for dining was the BEST i have ever experienced at any hotel down south (I have been many times to all 4 star plus hotels). I am a very picky eater and also do not eat certain meats and had no problems dining at any of the a la carte restaurants as well as the buffet.

The beach was always very well cleaned and maintained. We saw the tractor at least 2-3 times a day. The water was very clear and the sand was soft and very unrocky. The pool was always a good time as the entertainment staff made it very enjoyable. It was never too difficult to get pool or beach chairs either. We woke up to get chairs between 8-10 am and had no problems finding 4 chairs together or putting some together (worst case).

The night life at this hotel is pretty decent in comparison to other hotels visited. There is always a beach/pool party at night or some kind of event going on in the lobby area. Also the entertainment staff goes to coco bongo most nights if you prefer more of a club atmosphere.

Overall this hotel definitely exceeded all of my expectations. The atmosphere in this hotel is very tropical. There are beautiful palm trees and flowers everywhere. The grounds are always impeccably maintained. I would return here in a heartbeat. We will most definitely be planning another trip to the Ocean Coral. I would especially like to thank the wonderful entertainment staff: Denisse, Michelle, Leo and Oscar. You guys really made our vacation extra memorable. Also Griselda, Rocio and Lewis were the most exceptional waiters/waitresses we have had by far. Everyone at this hotel works very hard and is very accommodating. It is much appreciated.

Room Tip: Request a dehumidifier for the room. It make a HUGEEE difference in the room for the better. Also th...

“If you don't care much about the beach, this is a good place...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

My husband & I just returned from a 1 wk stay (Jan. 27 to Feb 3). Here are the good & the bad as I see them:

Room - clean, but a bit dark. Musty smell and the smell never gone away. Very humid although we have AC on the whole time. Building 1-5 are the buildings of choice if you are looking for quieter section of the hotel.

Pools - one of the best ones we have seen in Mexico/Cuba. There are 4 of them, ranging from quiet pool, party pools to children's pool. Something for everyone. The pools are large and nicely landscaped. Easy access to snacks, drinks and washrooms (which are very clean).

Food - breakfast is great. Love the selection of fresh squeezed veggie and fruit juices. But, when it comes to lunch and dinner, it gets boring pretty soon.... you will find enough to eat, but the food is pretty much the same day after day. Some of the dishes are tasty and some not...compared to other resort we had visited in the area, food is average. The Asia restaurant is a must try. Cookies in the buffet and Mike's Cafe are yummy. By the way, watch out the tables in the buffet restaurant. I read a few reviews about people banging their knees into the table and got bruises. The management claimed/responded by saying that they are fixing the table issue. Well, I can tell you - they are not fixed. In fact, I looked around the entire buffet restautant and all the tables, none of the table has been "fixed". Just don't cross your legs and when you pull your chair to be closer to the table, do so gently.

Beach - yes, there is seaweed, and plenty of them.... we are not impressed at all by the beach. Seen much more beautiful beach else where. To be fair, seaweed is a common problem in this coast. We walked 5 KM south and 4 KM north of the hotel, and there is seaweed everywhere... by the way, if you are planning to take a walk on the beach, don't expect the scenery to be romantic. The stretch is either covered with resorts, or condos, or some waste land in between.

Gym - left to be desired. For a 4.5 star hotel, the gym feels like a 3 star facility.

Transportation - don't expect to walk to the highway to catch a local "bus". To visit places outside of the reort, you either have to take a taxi, a "shopping bus" offered by the hotel, rent a car or join tours offered by the resort.

Overall, for what we paid, its good value for the $. But, we won't visit this resort again.
