“Beach Front Great Price”

If you are tired of the crowds and touristy Cancun and Playa del Carmen, make a stop in the peaceful little seaside town between Cancun and Playa. It has the feel of Playa del Carmen 20 years ago. The hotel cost about $65 a night and we had an ocean view room. The hotel is a bit run down but it is clean and quiet. It they put a little elbow grease and some nice finishing touches to the hotel and rooms I would rate it a 4 or 5. The front desk people were very friendly and they showed us several rooms and allowed us to choose the one we wanted. Go for a ground floor room which opens out onto the main patio with chairs and tables and a step or two to the water.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room

“Price is right!”

We had an extra night between our week at the time share resort and when our plane left. We had planned to find a room in Cancun but our plans instantly changed when we found this cute little town. We were walking the beach and saw a restaurant upstairs on the beach and had lunch there. It was right next to this hotel and I kept thinking how nice the pool, deck and the view would be from this hotel. I inquired about the price, $65 a night! Sold!! We got a ground floor room that walks right out on the deck. Had a table and chairs outside our room to just relax and watch the ocean. The window view was like a postcard! The room had two double beds, they were kind of hard but I like hard, my husband doesn't. The room was spacious enough and clean. The only problem was there was a smell that came from the shower drain but I think it was a sewer problem and the hotel really couldn't do anything about it. It wasn't so bad and couldn't smell it with bathroom door closed. When the desk lady took us to our room she acknowledged the smell and asked if we wanted to change rooms. We wanted the ground floor with deck access and this was the last one so we stayed in it. I'm glad we did. There are covered cabanas on the beach right in front of the hotel. The ocean was wonderful to just float in. True there is dried beach grass on the beach that takes away from the beautiful white sand and tourquis water but it just beautiful you can look past it. True the hotel would probably benefit from cleaning the beach in front of their hotel. You can walk right to the center of town just a few blocks away. We ate next door all our meals, great prices and wonderful food. If I return to this part of Mexico I would go back to Puerto Morales and this hotel! The front desk lady is so very sweet and helpful.

Room Tip: Ground floor has room access to the deck with the pool and table and chairs.

“So many things going for it, but.....”

Pros:
Clean room
Spacious
Lovely view of of the ocean
Parking

Cons:
There is a lackadaisical feeling to Puerto Morelos, reflected in the hotel. It's a lovely respite from the cheesiness of the Cancun and crowds of Playa. It still feels like a quiet fishing town, and has great places to eat. But, sadly, the beaches are unkempt and dirty. Trash of all sorts litters the beach-bottles, cans, styrofoam packaging. The water itself is lovely. Hacienda Puerto Morelos offers the basics, but it doesn't seem to care much about anything else. The rooms look out onto the pool, but the plants and trees are dry and un- cared for. The AC in our room was missing the cover, revealing the dirty lint. The beds were hard and decidedly uncomfortable. And there was no breakfast. Even the Amar Inn, a few block away, which was basically just a room in someone's house, offered a great, albeit simple breakfast. It's rather bleak. I mean, the hotel would vastly improve by keeping their portion of beach clean.

So, my review of this hotel is as much a review of the town. If they can keep the low key, charming feel, but clean it up a bit, PM would be the second only to Tulum.

“Great value”

My wife and I found Hacienda Morelos to be in a state of updating. Painting, cleaning and overall upkeep was in progress during our stay. We were able to book a room and have a refrigerator delivered when we walked in on a Thursday night. Our room was on the fround floor and had an excellent view along with our own table and chairs just outside the door facing the ocean. The room needed a good painting but it was comfortable and relatively clean. The maid staff did a great job every day except one. We had a different maid and she short sheeted the bed. The staff is very helpful although not overly friendly. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby area. The restaurant was being remodeled during in our stay and will be open in March of 2012. You were able to purchase a continental breakfast for a cost of &15 per person; terrible overpriced. We would definitely consider this hotel again if and when we return to Puerto Morelos.

“Authentic mexico--NOT the resort all-inclusive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2009

I LOVE this hotel. It is so peaceful and easygoing. My small children loved the pool, the view, the staff. Avoid like the plague the all-inclusives and experience something authentic. Request the ground floor and you get a beautiful patio that looks right at the caribbean. The small town of P.M is right around the corner. My kids loved walking to the center and buying paletas and playing in the park.
