Just spent one night at the Holiday Inn at Colchester where we stayed for an evening meal and breakfast. We were on a coach trip with others. Now I always wonder how a coach party will be treated by a hotel. However from the moment we arrived all of us were treated well by all of the staff from the enthusiastic manager to the room cleaners. Our room was spotless. Nothing was too much trouble. You see how a hotel run well shows the difference good service can make.
The meals were a pleasure with fresh ingredients served by friendly and efficient staff. The leisure centre was clean and inviting supported again by friendly staff.
Will have no hesitation in staying here again. They set standard others should follow.

There were 30 of us staying in early January 2012. Check in was seamless but we did have to ask for an additional door entry card which gave us a few tricky moments when trying to get in the door (likely cause was user error). The bar area was large and perfect for us all to meet up. It is located out of town, but there is plenty of car parking and only a ten minute drive in to the centre of Colchester.

We had an executive room on the ground floor. The room was well equipped, fresh and tidy with a choice of pillows to suit all. Other guests were in standard rooms which offered the same size room minus the mini bar (which was locked anyway), bathrobes and room safe. I would have hoped for free internet in an executive room so opted to use my mobile internet rather than pay the hotel rates.

Breakfast was included in the room rate and the staff had reserved an area for our party to sit together. There was plenty of seating for all guests. Breakfast offered a wide selection of food from pastries, fruit, full english, cereals and was plentiful and too tempting to go back for more.

Overall - a great one night stay and YES I would go back and will be recommending it to others.

The staff were excellent and went out of their way to be helpful both at reception and in the bar. The hotel was great for our large group. All our rooms were ground level and well decorated and very comfortable. The bathroom had a bath to soak in which was nice. The only minor down point was the bathroom hadn't been very thoroughly cleaned. It was fine but still had sticky rings on the from bottles of something from a previous client. Only a little glitch though in what was overall a great stay. Also it should be noted that Colchester city centre is a few miles away.
