“bare bones hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2010

We stayed for the weekend to ski in Valnord. Package via Rumbo.com for 90 Euros per person for two nights hotel, breakfast and lift tickets at Valnord. Once you account for lift tickets, the hotel expense was about 15 Euros per night per person. Great Value!
Room was reasonable size, warm, with a good bathtub and light water volume from shower, but reasonable for cost. Bed was disaster! Twin size (x2) and hard as a rock. Very uncomfortable.
Breakfast was standard breads, cold cuts, steam table with eggs. Nothing special.
Parked on street with great luck!
Room was on street side. Bad news! Ask for a room on the back side, then you are probably okay. Otherwise noise from Cheers bar of retching patrons and commotion on street is clearly audible all night long... Nuff said.
Would go back if really focused on low cost and skiing, with enough to drink to sleep through a hurricane....

“It depends on where the room is located”

First they gave us the worst room in the hotel: it was a cold and small room, we could hear all people going up and down… as it was beside the lift and I think it was an individual room (not a double bed room). Fortunately they could manage to change to another room with enough room to walk around the beds. The good point is that both rooms were clean and well maintained, which is one of the main points when you are looking for a cheap but clean place to stay.
The breakfast and the meal are OK (with fruits included). Staff was kind people.
I’ve been a little bit disappointed because they don’t have swimming pool or tennis court as it was announced. And also despite of reading in Tripadvisor that they don’t have parking lot, in another booking webpage it was written that they do have parking… Fortunately it was really easy to find a place to park in the street. Park meters are down so we shouldn’t have to pay (we also asked the policeman who said that it was for free in the whole weekend).

“Very Accommodating”

I stayed at this hotel with a large group of people (approx. 25) and was very impressed!

Breakfast and dinner were fantastic and offered a lot of choice. The bar was a lovely area to sit and chat and the staff were more than friendly.

The rooms were very nice! I was in a twin room with a shared balcony and there was plenty of extra space in the room! I think the rooms may have been large to accommodate skiing luggage! Some friends were in a slightly smaller room with bunk beds but this room was still quite spacious.

An overall pleasant stay and recommended to all. A great location for skiing.

“Marco Polo wouold have stayed elsewhere in Andorra”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 February 2008

This was a poor hotel for us and an Expedia let down, unfortunately. I stayed here with my 9 year-old son for a half-term skiing trip in Feb 2008. We had a twin room, 419 if you want to avoid it yourself! After each fantastic day’s skiing we returned happy but were received by an unhelpful and rude man at reception. My son’s observation was "He’s not very happy, is he Dad?" Having managed that, we were welcomed back into our room by the smell of the drains emanating from the bathroom. One day this was slightly masked by the intense smell of cigarette smoke in our room (source unknown). Following that, the hotel service continued to deliver to low expectations with a very uncomfortable bed, which leaves you less than refreshed for your next day’s skiing. We hired a car to get to La Massana from Barcelona and this came in useful. After the first day’s long journey on foot with equipment from the hotel through the town to the Cable Car ride up to the pistes, we opted for the car on subsequent days and parking at the pistes was free. I would recommend you try anything else in La Massana (or further afield if you have a car) before staying here. Andorra is fantastic. The ski resort (Vallnord) and the people and the town is just great and you will love it, so don’t let the Marco Polo taint your experience.

Traveller's tip on dining
We dined at El Vesuvio in La Massana and this was just great. The staff are very friendly and the food is good. Also, we rented my son’s ski equipment at ’Esports Caubella.’ The service and prices are unbeatable!

“Reasonably 3*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2008

Not sure what it says on the tin but this is a perfectly acceptable but not stunning 3* hotel offering good value in the ski season.

Most rooms are a little on the small side, with a tiddly TV and small bathrooms, but they are clean and well maintained. The balcony view on the road side is of the valley and main road which was surprisingly noisy at end. A little odd given that the road only leads to a few small villages.

Breakfast was in a large room and buffet style, and better than expected with a mix of hot and cold choices.

Down-side? Evening meal in restuarant was only a buffet - but the local pizza restuarants are fine, and Andorra has yet to embrace "smoke free" legislation so expect a smoky reception area.

  • Liked — Better Breakfast than expected
  • Disliked — Bit noisy road, smoky public areas
