“Poor value for money, very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We were very disappointed with this B&B. It seems to have been fitted out about 20 years ago and nothing has changed. We stayed in Limao and two incredibly squeaky old twin beds with sheets so old they were nearly transparent. Unlike the house the suites are fitted out very cheaply with furniture charity shops would reject. Cushions are worn, picture mounts mouldy and although it was fairly clean the place felt dirty and smelt musty, especially the cupboard under the sink. Oh and our toilet did not even flush properly until it was fixed. I was gutted we paid £150 a night for such a poor quality place.

Breakfast - well, the cereal was stale and fruit salad is made the night belore and comes out day after day - explaining why the melon on our first day was curled up and going rotten. Orange juice was cheap processed supermarket stuff until we commented on that, then it was watered down squeezed orange juice. We ended up cooking breakfast in the room for two mornings and it was much nicer and fresher.

The website talks of guests being able to use the common areas but even though only 4 of us were staying we were told off for going in the house, instructed it was only for use for breakfast. Odd as it is set up for guests and the owners live separately.

On the positve side they do spend time and money on the nice gardens and the owners were helpful and well meaning. But they need to completely revamp this very tired guesthouse - after staying there it made sense why we could get a last minute booking. I felt rather ripped off and we will not be going back.

We have had many of our guest returning not only once but multiple times, therefore the review contrasts with the overall appreciation we have had since the inception of our business. Some of those returning guests did occupy the exact same “Limão” room. All you need to do is read the other reviews right here on tripadvisor.

In addition, we are intrigued by comments about the breakfasts, as they are one of the highlights of the Quinta, as you can see also by other comments from previous guests.

The common rooms, the swimming pool, the gardens and the farm are open to all of our guests, doors are open and there is nobody controlling the in and out of the clients since we want our guests to feel at home.

Finally the furniture in the Guest House is decorated in a more simpler manner than the Main House, yet with same quality of bed linen (also to note, there is a difference of price between rooms in guest house compared to the main house).

“Peaceful paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2011

We are family of four. We stayed in the Quinta for 14 days in July. The location of the Quinta is just perfect, close to Lisbon, Sintra, Cascais, and they are about 10 beaches around, with one on the "TOP 10 in Europe" list. Everything is 10 to 30 minutes away by car: beaches, restaurants, castles, wineries, Lisbon Aquarium etc. Lisbon (European Havana) is just around the corner. Sintra will steal your heart for 2-3 days.
About Quinta: the first what we found out when we arrived was an awesome garden, very green, with old palm trees, blooming hortencias, banana plants, pool and magnificent views. We stayed in the guesthouse (Limao and Lima) so we had 2 floor apartment with two bathrooms, living room and 2 bedrooms. It was comfortable place for our family, we could also use kitchen facilities. Both bathrooms were very clean. There was enough space for our wardrobe.
Breakfasts served in the villa were excellent. Ask for tomato jam!
Patrons were very hospitable and very kind. It was a pleasure to meet such nice people.
We hope to visit the Quinta soon again.

“Everything you hope for is there!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2010

We hoped for a special place, and found something even better. Gabriela and Fernando were the warmest and most gracious of hosts. The setting is magical. The rambling home is the very image of old world beauty and charm. The rooms are beautiful and the furnishings are their equal. Our rooms were the Azenha Suite, beautifully furnished, with our windows and our own private terrace looking out over the gardens and the swimming pool. Breakfast was memorable with local organic eggs and cheeses, and fresh fruit from the garden. Everything that is wonderful about the Sintra area without the crowds....... We stayed just 2 nights. You should stay longer!

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2010

A lovely old Quinta hidden away near Azoia. We stumbled across it on our honeymoon (which we had to change due to the ashcloud) and loved it. They gave us the suite in the old library, which was fantastic.

The owners were lovely and full of advice for the continuation of our trip and for things to do in the area.

I thoroughly recommend this place

“Wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 April 2010

We stayed in the Quinta for six days in early April and cannot recommend it highly enough. Gabriela and Fernando have created a wonderful farm and home for themselves and their guests, and it was a delight to enjoy their hospitality at the Quinta.
The location of the Quinta is excellent, just off a fairly decent road that runs from Sintra to Cascais, but in the middle of countryside with beautiful views. The track down to the Quinta itself is fine to drive - have to do some reversing if you meet another car but we never did and in fact I enjoyed several very pleasant walks along the track. There's a really good bar / restaurant within about five minutes walk from the Quinta. The bar is suprisingingly cool and I'd imagine fairly lively at night (unfortunately didn't get to see it). There are other good restaurants just a little further away that wouldn't require a car.
We stayed in the guesthouse (Limao and Lima) and found the accomodation perfect. The furnishings were very comfortable and attractive and while the days were warm we really appreciated the log fire in the evenings (which was lit for us while we were out on our first night so we'd have a cosy home to return to after the evening meal). The cooking facilities were fine, good fridge & preparation area with all necessary utensils. We didn't use the hob but I think it may have been a 2 or 3 ring rather than full size. The upstairs terrace has a good table & six chairs for outdoor eating. It's also ideal for yoga / pilates (possibly the best view I've had while practising).
The swimming pool is beautifully sited and very relaxing. We had it to ourselves for the six days and swam a bit, although given that it was early April it was a slightly chilly experience - would imagine it's heaven from May onwards. Re. TV I didn't locate anything English language and child-friendly on the satellite so if you've got children perhaps bring a portable dvd player for evenings, but it should be added that board games were available which kept our 10 year old amused.
The beds were really comfortable and housekeeping each day was faultless. It was lovely to lie in bed each morning and just look out at the green view. And overall the accommodation was very private, with the upstairs terrace completely so – we were on our own at the Quinta for most of the week but I think other guests staying wouldn't have impinged on us in any way.
Breakfast was possibly the best we've had anywhere and included honey and fruit produced on the farm - excellent strawberries and Portuguese bananas in particular!
The Quinta is a really lovely place and perfect for any holiday. But the absolutely best thing about it are the hosts, Gabriela and Fernando. We had a car-related problem at the start of the week and they went far out of their way to help us. And throughout our stay they provided very many small kindnesses - a walking stick when needed, a yoga mat when mentioned in passing and much more. We were always very glad to see them and through their friendliness and advice they enhanced our holiday greatly. They really are the essence of hospitality and personally provide a tremendous example of how to live after “retirement”. Very many thanks to them for facilitating such a pleasant holiday.
