It’s hard to find enough superlatives for Ciaran’s Hotel. I’ve just completed my second annual pilgrimage and am having severe withdrawal symptoms back in London. For those that think primarily with their stomachs, Ciaran’s centres around a beach view restaurant and bar, stocked with ice-cold drinks and fuelled by a tandoori oven. Rarely has fresh seafood tasted so good, so good that most guests struggle venture further down the beach to sample other options.You will see what I mean when you get there.
Our room was a garden hut complete with a four poster bed, draped in mosquito netting, an en suite bathroom with solar powered hot water and a secluded front balcony with hammock, chairs, and a glimpse of the sea. More importantly, we were only a short waddle away from the restaurant and the sun loungers on the beach.
For me, the best thing about Ciaran’s is although the ambiance is ultra-relaxed, the service is is ultra-efficient. Whether it’s laundry, airport transfers, a day-trip to the Anjuna Markets, or a boat loaded with a bucket of cold beers to Butterfly Bay that you need, nothing is too much to ask for, and everything is sorted efficiently and quickly behind the scenes. Which, in turn, gives you more time to think about your next meal and to make sure you work your way through that menu.
