I agree with much of A&T's review, with one or two additional comments. We also stayed at this resort for one week in late May with Sunvil, flying into Beja (lovely airport, amazingly friendly check-in staff, not often one can wander outside an airport, smell the lavender and admire the butterflies!) We were equally delighted with the welcome and courtesy of the staff at the Aparthotel and the truly lovely studio apartment with its great view over the river between the Troia Peninsular and Setubal and its comprehensive facilities in the mini kitchen. What we hadn't been prepared for before our arrival was that Troia is in effect a moderately new custom built holiday village, with high rise hotels and apartments, a place for visitors and second home owners, with a wide range of susperb sporting facilities - it is not a traditional Portuguese town, as we had half expected - our fault, we hadn't done our homework. It has a pretty marina and there are lovely bleached wooden boardwalks round the complex, mainly to the beaches, but we ended up going to Setubal on the ferry to dine out more often than not, or buying food at the supermarket to self cater, as the Fish Restaurant at the Marina was truly awful and expensive (someone who ate there at the same time as us was very ill for a couple of days) and, unlike A & T's experience, we found the food in the restaurant at dinner pretentious and expensive, though to be fair the breakfasts were superb. We also took the train to Lisbon and the bus to Sesimbra from Setubal, but our view is that this would be a wonderful place for families with children in the summer, not ideal for a couple in coolish, windy and occasionally rainy late spring weather. We had no problems with sunbeds as the weather wasn't really warm enough, though the pool itself is lovely. We're not very keen on piped music round the pool all the time and were impressed that, when we asked if they would perhaps be kind enough to turn it down, the staff did so immediately - the staff were always superb.
